I'm aware of the Stew Mac one (around $50.) Are there any cheaper options that are as good?

Thanks for any info,

Dave

Hi Dave , I assume you are in the States? If you are up here...Canadian Tire sells one for $20.00 on sale. Betcha' Wally World may have something. They are all pretty good for the money these days as We continue to support the Chinese economy.:jo

Thanks for the reply. I did a search and found this one (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000B8XYV8/ref=reg_hu-wl_item-added). Can't really see much difference between that and the Stew Mac one. For $18. I think I can take the risk. ;)

Harbor Freight stuff is fine for casual use. They have frequent sales too. Especially good prices if you have a retail store near you.

It looks just like the Canadian Tire one as well. I find it eats batteries but it does the job.

The Stew Mac dial caliper has the notch for measuring fret crown height. I do use that & have found it to be an overall very nice tool.
If you don't need that feature one of the others for half the price would likely do fine.

I have a complete cheapo chinese vernier caliper I got off eBay that seems quite accurate (checking my measurements against those of guitar stores) and set me back something like $10. Given how little I use it (probably once or twice a year when I sell a guitar), that was fine for my purposes. If I used it more than that, I would have sprung for something made domestically.
