I know this subject has been posted before, but I just bought a Hercules stand today and want to know if anyone has experienced any problems. I have a couple nitro finished guitars and would hate to have the finish ruined.

Was told at NAMM, by the Hercules rep, that I should not store my guitars (all Gibsons) on the Hercules stands as they had had some complaints re: nitro finished guitars. I have since adopted the policy of using micro fiber polish cloths in between any rubber parts and the finish, and have not had any issues yet. Love those stands, they grip the axe and don't let go. Don't find it any problem making sure I don't stain the finish. He did say they were aware of the problem and were working to "fix" it. The Ultimate stand people turned purple when I mentioned same potential problem, and hastily said they had "fixed it" with cloth surrounds on their newer stands, and I must have an older stand (I do), so I do the same when I use their stand also. I asked about retrofitting My stand and they Ignored me .... enough said?
Just use caution ..... Hopefully Hercules won't ignore us when they 'fix' theirs!

Dunno about the stands but I've had a number of nitro-necked guitars on Herc wall hangers for years without incident.
I just had a brain storm!
Go to the dollar store and buy some cheap cotton gloves. Cut the fingers off, and slip them onto the hanger part of the stand.
What do you think?

I made some hangers using the large hooks you can buy for hanging stuff in garages. They come with plastic that WILL screw up nitro, so I cut it off with a utility knife and replaced it with surgical tubing.
Then I cut some scrap pieces of oak railing material into appropriate lengths, rubbed some tung oil on them and screwed the hooks into them. I did 10 hangers for a total of about $20.

I like the idea of the micro fibre cloths. How are you fastening these to the stand?
