Not that I have any goal greater than actually reading info about Les Pauls, I cant for the life of me get a response from any 'moderator' in order to set up permission to join the forum. WTF??? Is there a way to join???

A lot of people have had the same problem.(including me). I would try to register every couple of days and then one day it worked.

The mod told me it was my email address, but it 's trh same one I use on every forum. Keep trying and it will probably work after a few times...

Can't join with a free email account like yahoo or aol.
Same holds true for many forums.

Man, I don't know....I think it's like when the mafia "closes the books". I have had a password and user name there for over a year and have never been cleared to post or interact in any way. I've spoken to members, online and at guitar shows, I've tried to email repeatedly to Lily, whatever.

It's a shame too-I'm always flush with tons of killer Gibsons and would like to participate, but after all this time, I feel snubbed. The members seem nice, but I got sick of lurking there. And, I'm not the only one that feels excluded, I've talked with many others that experience the same problem. Oddly though, once in a while I browse it, and there seems to be some new members from time to time. I guess me and my pile of classic 50's wood ain't good enough....

I joined quite a while ago but I don't remember why. I must have had questions about LP's but there are definitely enough LP players here to answer any questions.

Anyway, it took a couple days to get approved and by then I really didn't care. This was around 2 years ago and I still haven't visited the place.

To me, there's kind of a snooty feel about a forum you have to be approved for and a waiting period if they're just too busy.

the snooty cork sniffer atmosphere does indeed prevail there to a disturbing degree ... not as psychopathically personality-cult oriented like another forum named after a major mfr. (with a chip-on-shoulder administrator), but this can be equally frustrating

Its the "free" email thing.

A lot of forums are doing that now for better regulation and limit "trolls" and "spam" probably.

You need to buy a new Les Paul and put it on your lap - the registration expires 24 hours after you've bought the Les Paul. So rush home quickly and register. No - borrowing a friend's Les Paul will not do.

I've been a member for a long time. I hate to hear that there are problems joining up. Snooty? Hmmm, don't like the sound of that.

Send me $20 and I'll "see what I can do". :crazyguy:bow

I joined in 2003 without a hitch. Took a few minutes. In fact it was the first guitar forum I ever joined. I post maybe once or twice a year and am still a member. I have never owned a Gibson guitar. :rotflmao

I had the same issue and had to email "Lily" a couple of times.

I have e-mailed Lily many times, every few months, then last week out of the blue I got an answer apologizing for the delay (8 months!).
Lily said something about "technical problems" but it's "fixed now"
I can now log in without any problem.

Like anything to do with the word Gibson......There has to be a dime in it for them. http://www.thegearpage.net/board/images/icons/icon13.gif

Is that a long tenon or short tenon Lester you are holding ? Short is no good.
I had similar issues when joining, but one e-mail and they fixed it. I get the strong impression that it is actually a technical issue.
It's a good forum except for one or two pushy characters, more good than not though, definitely and some amazing collections. I learned a lot, but I don't go there much now cos it's the same stuff over and over.

I had a similar issue at the Petrucci forum, I don't think my account ever got activated, so I gave up.

Make sure you have all the period correct plastic and inlays too, you will be ridiculed if you do not.

I've been trying to post to some interesting threads on 335's and they haven't allowed me to post yet, though I have registered. There has been some interesting threads on early dot neck reissues and mine is getting some luthier attention as a result of those threads, on the other Gibson side of the forum.

Your story sounds alot like mine.....except for the happy ending.

It's not worth any more effort, i can get what little info i would need from other sources. :bkw

FWIW, it took me about 12-13 months + about 4-5 emails to lily to go from registration to getting a valid login.

Same problem for me - registered a week ago and got a 'your application is being moderated' email, but no action since.

Seems like I shouldn't expect anything in the near future!

I supposedly have been accepted as a member, but every time I login I go right to a page that says I'm not authorized to view the forum. I emailed the administrator - have done so repeatedly - and I get no responses. Very frustrating. I want to write it off, but I know there's good information there that I can't get too.

I have this exact same issue... I emailed the moderator / owner and no response.

Been trying to log on there for a few months, but keep getting the message about not being approved, etc. What a PITA!

Oh well, will try an email to "lily".

Also couldn't get any info from Customer Service about the Standard LP I bought, sent info and pix twice with no reply. They're not both run by the same people are they??? :NUTS

I couldn't get on and I don't have free email. I tried the Mylespaul.com forum and was given immediate access. Everyone is very helpful and friendly, too.

It's a shame they don't want any additional input. I would guess that if they allowed that, the same regulars would still post a majority of the threads.

I've noticed that if you ask somebody in person what there opinion is, you usually take it or leave it at that. I've noticed that when you print an opinion, whether on paper or on a computer screen, it is accepted either consciously or subconsciously more as fact. I think this is why you get so many myths in guitar lore about weight, finish, pickups, caps, etc. Not that those items are not valid and fun to discuss, it's just that if you have a limited amount of participants, everyone buys guitars and mods them to something to where they all agree. If it were my forum, I'd want more varied input than that.

+1 on the MyLesPaul Forum. I am a member of both, but MLP seems much more friendly, and there's about quadruple the activity.

When you apply we have a top secret program that we run on you. Then we vote out the undesirable candidates. We never tell them of course. Sooner or later they just give up and go away. That's how we like it .

I kept sending Lily emails for months and finally one day she emails me and says sorry there was a problem. I have heard lots of people say that the forum is close minded or snooty but I haven't found that to be true. I've enjoyed it as much as this forum and the mylespaul forum.

IMO that place has gone to hell in a handbasket since the founder left and turned the reins over to "Lily".thank you. back in the salad days of the lpf, it was a great place. dave paetow is an exceptional human. even when there were beefs over there, they got resolved (for the most part). i learned so much about lesters there. what an incredible database. now it's just another fetish forum.

i remember when lily first started posting there (as spose's wife). never in my darkest thoughts could i have ever foreseen where it would have ended. she gutted the place and turned it into a lilypix production. sad.
