Hey guys i am just curious as to what the best brand of pickups to get as i am redoing my single coil squier? Is one brand better than the other or are they just different sounds?

Just different. In general, that's the answer to most "what's the best..." queries.

They're both great.

since we're talking about strat pickups, i will say that i generally prefer duncan's side-by-side rails offerings over dimarzio's as being a little more toneful. conversely, for vertical stack designs, dimarzio's virtual vintage line just crushes duncan's. it's not even close.

they both make nice true single coils.

you can have both!!!

I have dimarzio area 58's in the middle and neck positions and a SD lil' Screamin Demon in the neck position on my partsocaster...

there's a bunch of practically-one-man-band operations hand-winding great pickups these days. Curt Novak's pickups are a good example. the set I put in my Jazzmaster are phenomenal, and clearly hand-made, which adds to the purchase mojo, even if you don't believe in the tone mojo.

I really like the Area 58/61 pickups by Dimarzio. They are noiseless and fantastic. I also like the Seymour Duncan JB Jr. in the bridge of a strat. It depends what you are tonally looking for.

Some Duncans sound better than others and the same for DiMarzio. It depends on the tone you're after and don't forget to upgrade your pots and caps while you're at it.

If you're on a tight budget try GFS pickups sold by http://store.guitarfetish.com/singlecoil.html They are a good bang for the buck.

If great sounding pickups what you be looking for, then you really owe it to yourself to check out the Suhr pickups. The FL's are the newest and are indeed great sounding pups.

I like Seymour Duncan's myself but I've played some great sounding Dimarzio's too....
