View Full Version : Would you trade these amps (Laney and Vox)?

I currently have a Laney VC-50 that I am selling in order to buy a lower wattage amp. My initial plan was to use the proceeds of the sale to buy a used Orange Tiny Terror and cab, with hopefully some money left over to put towards the Egnater Rebel when it comes out so that I could have a two head setup, one for cleans, one for dirty.

Someone on another forum has offered to swap my Laney VC-50 with a Vox AC15CCX with an alnico blue in it.

While this sort of gets me going in the right direction in the lower wattage, I'm worried about a couple things.

Firstly, its not the exact amp I was going for, however I have heard that the tiny terror is based off an AC15 circuit.

The second thing is that I obviously won't have any money to put towards the Egnater.

The last thing is that these AC15s are available for $AU1250-1300 new locally, and I was hoping to sell my amp for the $AU1000 mark. So I am worried about the re-sale value of the Vox if I decide that I want to sell it later.

Do you guys think it is a fair trade? Am I being silly with my concerns?

I have no experience with either of those amps, however, if what you really want is the Orange, then get the Orange.

You had your mind/heart set on that amp before this one came along and if you do the deal you'll still want the Orange.

Give the guy a polite thanks but no thanks and be on your way.

I agree with the post above, in that if you really want the Orange, then you'd be better to stick to your plan.

My personal opinion is that the AC15 with the Celestion Blue is a much nicer amp than either your Laney or the Tiny Terror. But it's not me buying the amp - it's you. I've no experience with the Egnator.

I agree with what you both are saying, that eventually I will probably go for the amps that I want, however if I did the trade then it would give me an opportunity to experience another amp for a while.

The main thing that I worry about is the re-sale value. Since the Vox is only $AU1200 new I'm worried that if I ultimately decide to sell it that I won't get as much for it as my Laney.

While on the topic, if I was to go for the trade, what would be a good boost pedal to take the AC15 into hard rock territory (which I occasionally play)?

why not trade plus cash ??
actually i'm in the anti outsourcing corner......so i say no to new vox.
get money, your money and sell the lanely, save up and get something with quality...parts and build.
in a head.
then save up and get a 2x12.
you can mix speakers and plug future amps into the cab as well.

though do what is right for the sound you want.
kinda like get the right tool that you want for the "sound" box
get a hammer to hammer the way you want, not hammer just ok and also used for pliers....ya know what i mean.
there are no swiss army or leatherman amps........though some can come close with regards hitting two camps, but no more without modeling into a crapshoot.
