RE: new staying out of trouble thread. I think it would be great if forum members were instructed not to clutter up threads with their interpretation of TGP rules. If you have a problem, report it. If you're not a moderator, you have no business "informing" the membership on TGP rules within a thread. Such instruction is thinly veiled bullying and pulls the thread completely off topic as members address the bully's issues.

as a "non-paying" member I have no problem with this. I know they have to maintain a mega-site and that costs $$$. Hopefully I'll be able to "subscribe" within the next few months. Don't listen to people whining. Keep up the fantastic work!

sorry if this has already been addressed in this thread, but I didn't look through properly.
But wondering if it would be possible for an extra section or some sort of filter system for things for sale outside of US on the emporium. I know I haven't posted much, but I do enjoy having a good look through all the listings for bargains, but being from the UK, most of the time it isn't worth be buying from a US member.

The problem with this is that we get requests to do emporiums for each state, plus have had requests to do emporiums just for Germany, Australia and New Zealand, Hong Kong, Great Britain, South Africa and many other countries. It is impractical to do so many emporiums, so we have chosen to keep the emporiums as they are. What we ARE looking at is a way to use words in the title of ads that help people find what they are looking for. Of course, members will need to voluntarily use those words in order for people to find the ads. Examples now include that we ask people to add "FA", "For Auction" or "On Ebay" if their ad is for an item that is on Ebay. If people choose to post an ad and include "Great Britain: xxxxxxx", it would be a potential solution.

I'm having difficulty "bumping" an ad in the digital forum. It says I have to wait two weeks to bump my own ad.
Thanks

That has to be a mistake. You should be able to bump your ad after 24 hours from your last post or bump on that thread.

Do you think it's a mistake with the Digital Emporium or just my ad?
I'm now done to 11+ days.

yeah, i have had this problem: "to post a different ad and it says I have to wait 700 hours"
that was after starting (and deleting) 4 threads in different areas. i think that rule should be eased up, especially if you delete your other threads so long as you dont have more than a certain number of threads active.

I haven't posted another thread in a few months and it's still over 11 days before I can bump the thread. While I understand it has to be a mistake, but is there any way to fix it?
Thanks

I would like to see sub headings, like solid body, hollow body, basss, etc. I think this would cut down on the bumps ,as your ad won't disappear in a sea of others in 10 minutes and it would also make it easy for the buyer who is just browsing to not have to seach for something specific.

Agreed. Sometimes we buy, sell or change our mind. It would be nice to have some flexibility although I respect the fact that the mods may need to manually keep track of some things that the software might not.

I must say I'm a little peeved that I'm getting blocked from starting a new for sale thread in the Amps Emporium. It says no more than 4 posts in 700 hours.
I didn't see anything about any restrictions when I signed up and paid the $12 for Supporting Member.
Do you get more posts as a Silver Member?
That's all quite misleading when signing for memberships.

you have 4 active threads in the amps and cabs emporium.
The rules here:
http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=987052
You're really only allowed 2, we give 4 in case one deletes 2. 4 is the max no matter subscription level. All is laid out in the above link.
Not sure if this is the right thread but...
There has been a new update to the Emporium rules that now allows dealer threads to be put in the main member "for sale" areas. I read Brian's announcemnt, and he estimated that about 1% of all general Emporium threads would be from dealers, but based on a quick sampling of the first page of the guitars area, nearly 13% of the threads were from dealers. It was about 8% in the amps section, and about 13% in the effects section.
Won't this end up creating more "traffic cop" and rules enforcement work for the mods?
As a member, I'm honestly not so thrilled.
Thanks for listening.

Why do you think you get to have more than FOUR current ads at the same time? Why can't you just combine your amps into a single ad? You are lucky we get four here. Many places it's 1.

Everyone's on the same equal footing.
The dealers get the same amount of threads as the private sellers do.
The object is actually to make Less work for the mods in regards to moving threads.

Do "dealer" have to identify themselves as such? How do we know?
Thanks.

It's pretty obvious by their posts, wouldn't you think?
As always the emporiums are Caveat Emptar.
Do your homework, make sure your comfortable with the seller/buyer...and I always suggest a phonecall to make sure things 'feel' right.

I too am a little concerned with the combined Dealer/Private sale ads if they aren't identified as such. For example, I put a WTB ad on the Guitar Emporium...I received a few offers from a seller...only turned out later to realize he's a dealer and an international one. I think they should have to identify in their ads and their correspondence that they are dealers. It allows us as private buyer equal footing.
big mike
06-05-2012, 09:50 AM
How are we supposed to police private correspondence on a WTB add?
We can't. Sorry.
Dealers are required to disclose affiliation in their signatures. Not a new rule.

I liked the ability to surf the dealers and builders emporium section just to see what they are selling. I guess the change isnt the end of the world but it just makes navigating through the Emporium that much more laborious in searching out a builder or a favorite dealer.
It also works the other way as well. Some of the dealers just bombard the emporium on a daily basis and its nice to avoid that by just staying out of the dealers/builders emporium when looking for a good deal from a private seller.
In the end it comes down to the old saying of "If it ain't broke, then don't fix it".
big mike
06-05-2012, 11:29 AM
I'm not sure where bombard is coming from. They get the same amount of threads as any other subsribing member. Bump rules are in effect, and if the buddy bumps get stupid, we'll start infracting for those as well.
As for searching for favorite builders, product, etc. The search function is still intact. :)

Big Mike,
I didn't need any policing from the Mods...it is just a change to the method and we are creatures of habit. I can handle the ad locations, but the dealers have to identify themselves more clearly. I think the forum is awesome, but now I have to search through the buddy bump ads to see what Danocaster has been released this week!!!!

I liked it better when dealers had their own emporium that I could ignore. This new system is really not good for my GAS. ;)
I also don't like that dealer listings aren't always obviously a dealer vs private seller.

As a builder I would agree as well. I understand the reasoning behind doing away with that forum, but it did serve a useful purpose for both ends, builder/retailer and consumer. It was simply easier to navigate to find new builders, retailer sales, etc. I get you can use the search function but the builders/retailer fourm was only a few pages long and easy to just browse quickly to see what was new.
That's just my opinion, I don't mean to come off as too critical, I'll still be supporting the place regardless :D

Mike,
I don't discount the purpose of the search function, but there was nothing like hitting the Dealers Emporium daily to look for the Danocaster thread. Now they can be buried three of four pages deep by member ads.....that's all.
Clearly this decision was made with rationale and data. I don't want to be an irritation, and I don't want to poke the admins further. We are given free reign to express ourselves and other than making our thoughts known I'm done putting it out there. I love the site....like some changes and don't like others. Rock on!!!

No worries, I just try to answer as best I can for you. I don't make the decisions, the admins do, but they do listen to our input.
I agreed this was a good idea. Less work for us, more views for the dealers/vendors.
to me it's a win/win.

Hi,
I'm actually a new member and this is not properly in theme with the discussion but I have a suggestion...
wouldn't it be better if the Emporium threads had an obliged part of the title?
For example:
"FS (US only) many guitars"
"FT/FS (EU, Worldwide) beautiful amp "
or someth similar?
In this way you immediately know where the item is and where the person want to ship.
And you don't even open a thread if you already know that guy doesn't want to trade with you, without wastes.
Just an idea, but I think it would be quite useful.

I get the error that I can't bump an ad in the forum - even though I didn't start the thread. Apparently, you can't reply to an Emporium ad more than once a day - even if you didn't start the thread. That seems wrong...just was trying to respond to something posted.

If the "combined" emporium areas continue, I would love to see a limit of 1 thread per member. There are several dealers with 4 threads going in a given emporium. That's the only part that is consistently irritating, as a user looking primarily for used gear.

There doesn't seem to be a limit to the number of ads that dealers can post concurrently in the Emporiums? Just went to the guitar Emporium and counted at least FOUR ads from one dealer on the front page.
Count me in the camp who would like to see dealer ads highlighted differently from normal member ads - perhaps a different colour or icon etc. so I can quickly visually filter them out?

Yeah, as a supporting member, I feel something needs to be done about the enormous amount of dealer postings. It's getting silly.
I apologize for not being able to offer constructive suggestions on how to fix the issue. I'm not familiar with the v-bulletin software and it's limitations.

I've noticed that there are some DIY builders here on TGP that don't really hang out often elsewhere. I was wondering what the proper forum would be to sell PCBs of original designs, or if that would even be allowed (an unbuilt circuit board doesn't exactly count as "gear"). There are some designers that pop in here every once in a while that have really cool pedals, and I think there are some people who don't build who would be interested in some of the cool designs out there if they just knew about them.
Please let me know. Thanks. :)
