I've had my NKT275 Sunface for a month or so, and the more I play with it, the more addicted to it I become. The transistors in this thing are amazing. I've been running it through the clean channel of my Hot Rod Dlx and the pedal sounds awesome; particularly through my Strat Plus (w/ Lace Sensors). I wish I could post clips--Totally addicting. Those NOS 60's NKT275's are no joke. I'm interested to try a BC108 Sunface.

I have a high gainer that's the perfect fuzz, to my ears. It hasn't yet knocked the Peppermint Fuzz>Mule combination off my board. This still my choice for feeding a clean amp.
But High Gain Sunface into my my 18 watter? MMM-MMM good.

Where are you guys setting your volume on the SF?

I look for unity at about 5 on the guitar's volume with the fuzz engaged. That way amp crunch segues smoothly into light fuzz.

Up full, where else? :JAM
Seriously, the setting of the volume has a huge influence on how a fuzz face sounds in my experience. The pedal really opens up when the volume is cranked, that's where the true tone and voicing of the pedal lives. It will sound brighter and more open than it does with the volume at or below unity.

+1 on this.
I find it to be clearer and brighter with the volume up higher.
I generally set it anywhere from 2:00 to full on depending on where I can set my amp. If overall amp volume is an issue, I'll put the fuzz volume down a bit so the amp can cook a little harder rather than compensating it the other way around, but I'd say most of the time it's around 3:00.

I ask because I'm setting the volume 2-3 o'clock, sounds much better but it's pretty loud all the same.
Hey Teahead, heading back to NI next week!!!!!

Same here. I freakin' love it. It's so sensitive to my guitar's volume control. Good fun.

It depends on the amp, but I like to set it above unity for sure. Usually around 2-3 o'clock with the fuzz control dimed. Into a tube amp on the edge of breakup it's just awesome.

It's nice though because you can roll back the guitar volume for rhythm stuff and roll it up to let 'er rip when you need to. Really no need for any other boost that way... although they can make for so good fun combined!

just got one tonight, and its real cool. still have a lot of playing around yet to do with it! it stacks great with my TS and microvibe. even with a humbucker guitar, gets a great hendrixy tone. does the cream thing well too.

If it is not the best fuzz on the market, I just don't know what is (this is a statement, not a question). I think it's one of the best pedals being made right now, period.

A friend of mine had a Sunface NKT and I thought it was great. Highly interactive with the volume pot, you could get totally clean…not a lot of gain, but oodles of tone, warm and fat.
I have a Sunface BC-108 on the way. I ordered the sundial option as well for a little more tweakability. I was going to get the NKT-275 but I really wanted to try the BC-108 version and the curiosity got the best of me. Can’t wait!
I’d like to get the NKT version down the road…

I definitely want a BC108 Sunface. There are a few other pedals taking up space on my wish list right now, but when I do get a silicon FF clone, I will absolutely be going with Analog Man (especially if he knows as much about Si Fuzz Faces as he does about the Ge ones).
Some people say that the NKT Sunfaces are smoother than other FF clones, but I think that it's a benefit rather than a problem. I think this adds to it's vintage flavor. It's hard to explain, but whatever it is, I like it. The NOS NKT275's are very toneful and musical when compared to other germanium transistors. You really notice it when you bring down your guitar volume.

Its not just me then.... I have a NKT with high gain transistors and this thing is killer. Everything you said about the volume is true.
Tele into a Vicky 20112 witht the sunface volume at about 1:00 and the fuzz at about 4:00 and then tweak the volume and tone of the tele and you can do everything from hairy clean to crunch and zing with just the guitars knobs.
Magic.
