SF Princeton Reverb: Weird noise w/ delay pedals...

I have a 1980 Silverface Princeton Reverb. I thought my new MXR Carbon Copy had gone bad. The delays were very fuzzy. I then tried my First Act delay and the delays were even fuzzier, lots and LOTS of almost white noise with each repeat. I tried swapping the preamp tubes one by one and it made no difference. When the amp is on, and nothing plugged in, its very quiet, no noises. What could this be?????

did you try plugging in direct?
nothing plugged in... the inputs are shorting jacks and are doing what they do keeping them quiet

Sounds like a bad filter cap or plate resistor. Should be affecting the trailing end of every note you play, not just the delays. Play a chord, hold it, listen to it decay. Do you get the white noise?

Yeah, that sounds like its it. If I hold a chord its barely noticeable but its there. With the First Act Delay its REALLY there.... guess a trip to the shop for this one. Oh, and its not the cord, it does the same thing through my board or guitar>>delay>>amp.

If I remember correctly, the FA delay uses the PT2399 chip and it's going to be noisy on long repeats. Perhaps the CC delay has the same chip. It might not be the amp.

Maybe but this is REALLY noisy. I'm a delay junkie and know good noise from bad noise :( This is a bad noise.

does the amp still make the noise?

I took the amp to the repairman. It gave both techs there the stinkeye when they played through it. It will come back to me good as new (hopefully better than new)!
