View Full Version : RCA to 1/4" speaker jack?

I'd like to plug my Vibro Champ into a 2x10 cab. Is there a converter that will allow me to go from my speaker cables 1/4" jack into the RCA input of the amp?
I suppose I could install a 1/4" jack for the RCA, but that'd mean tinkering with the amp, paying a tech to do it, and needing to buy a new speaker cable for the amp. Thanks!

There are adapters which aren't particularly reliable, and cables with RCA plugs on one end and 1/4" jacks on the other. Radio Shack used to carry stuff like this.
I'd be surprised if a Google search didn't turn something up.

I'd be more inclined to either make my own cable (RCA male on one end and 1/4" plug on the other) or convert the speaker out jack on the VibroChamp to a 1/4" and the speaker wire plug to a 1/4". The latter will let you use the VC with any suitable-ohm'd (?) cab with any good guitar speaker cable.

Would this work? Is it a speaker cable? http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2123294
I do like Walt's idea too.

No thats a shielded cable not speaker cable. This gold plated adapter should do the job and might be more reliable than a non plated one but as Mike said its still not that reliable. Bob

My suggestion:
Why not just change the RCA jack on the amp to a 1/4" jack (like all other fenders...)....
That's what I'd do.

HOSA makes reliable converter cables, if you don't want to roll your own.

on such a small, low-powered amp like the VC, an "instrument-style" cable will probably work, but building your own adaper cable or changing the jack from an RCA to a 1/4" is easy and cheap enough that that's the better way to go.

Be careful with adaptor plugs for this application....simply because if anything falls apart or pulls out it puts the output tranny at risk. The speaker connection is vital for a tube amp and the RCA plug by itself is already a marginal connector for this task.

definitely. the adapter i've got is *extremely* tight. i have no concerns about it going anywhere.
i've also got a 2nd one i use for connecting a pedal to control the vibrato. it stays plugged in all the time and i've never had a problem with it, either.
that said, i don't use the speaker jack adapter much.......kinda defeats the purpose of the VC being a "grab and go".
cheers,
