I am a relatively new guitarist with no formal lessons. I have written a song that has the following chords in it; C#m A B and sometimes G#

I am wondering if some of you knowledgeable folks could tell me what scale would work for figuring out a solo for the song. This is my first time writing a song on guitar and I appreciate any help.

Thanks, Chris

Well, you could pick a note from each chord, and build a lead line around those. Also, you could play the same notes that you sing.

You will probably end up using a couple of different scales. Not every tune uses just 1 scale throughout.

Having said that, maybe give C#m Pentatonic a try..........

Try either a C#Minor Penatonic or C#Blues scale, I think that'll give you what you're looking for.

hahaha yeah. I was wondering when somebody would chime in with the obvious answer. The song is in the key of E major and the relative minor is C#minor

Ok, you guys are the coolest ever. My knowledge of music theory is limited, indeed. I will probably ask a lot of questions that sound like they are simple to you guys. Thanks for the suggestions and for not making me feel like a dipstick:BEER

We're all just trying to make music. And even though it may seem otherwise, no one has all of the answers!

Rock on!
