After The Fire aka: ATF; mostly remembered for their hit version of "Der Kommisar" circa 1982. Killer band with many great tunes...

There's a reason they are forgotten.
The Waitresses. I loved that tune I know What Boys Like. They were a two hit wonder though. Her voice still gets me though.
The Plimsouls. Cool post-Byrds sort of thing going on there. I used to take dance lessons at this studio where the rhythm guitarist taught. He was quite the ladies man too.

The Skyhooks (Australia)
their first (Living in the '70's - 1974)
and second (Ego is not a dirty word - 1975)
albums were absolutely fantastic and years ahead of their time.

There's a reason they are forgotten.
Well, many reason(s), plural.
E.g.: Length of record contracts; record co. mergings; promotional budgets; evolution of the nature of Media; personnel changes; personal tragedies, and on and on.
I liked The Babys. We read lots of "whatever happened to" threads around here, but I don't think I've seen The Babys.

I loved the Stories' LP with "Louie Louie" on it - the whole record...I still do, great 70's pop record in an almost Elton John kinda vein...
And I loved Burning Senations from the early 80's...still have their vinyl and used to see them play live a lot...good times...

Some great bands listed so far!
I'll add....
Riot
The Motels
Budgie.
Tunes like 'Hot as a Docker's Armpit', 'Drugstore Woman', etc. just rock. They also have this tune on their album 'Squawk' where you would swear it was early Rush. And I'm talking about the vocals; very, very much like early Geddy. The name of the tune escapes me now.
Funny thing is that they were a UK power-trio that preceeded Rush.

They were approx. 1973-1981, have reunited a few times since:

AMAZING band!
Lotsa great bands mentioned.
Patto was awesome w/ Ollie Halsall in the early-70s.
For commercial pop, I liked Go West's first record (Alan Murphy on guitar).
While uneven, Funkadelic could be badass
Ulrich Roth's guitar work w/ the early Scorpions
Genya Raven/Ten Wheel Drive
etc...

I remember "What's He Got" and some other song that were on MTV a lot back in the day- and never heard anything else of the band after that. It wasn't until 1995 that I ran across a buddy that had the record (or maybe it was a cassette dump of the record) that I didn't just imagine that song.
I didn't know who Al Teller is/was- but why didn't he push that band?

THE BRAINS...I loved that band. Their first record was fantastic. All great songs. I think they were from Atlanta. One of their songs had this line (which I think is one of the all-time great lines):
"Real life? You can have it."
When will there be a CD of that record? When?
Someone also mentioned The Fabulous Poodles, another great band. They had a fantastic song called B Movies. Great new-wave pop.

Yup - the vocalist on the second Widowmaker album sounded like Mick - the singer on the first record sounded like Marriott. They died an awful death after that second album, which was great - but punk had taken over the world and no one wanted another BritBluuz Rock band.
They were great anyway.

Widowmaker with Ariel Bender - saw them open for the Who in London in I think '76 - great band also featured Bob Dasley on bass, who went on to be in Ozzys band.
Yup, I have their "Straight Faced Fighters" retrospective, and some of it is great. Widowmaker were on "Jet Records", the last label owned by Don Arden, legendary English promoter (and rip off artist, according to many), who gave us his daughter Sharon Arden Osbourne, Ozzy's wife and herself an incredibly successful impresario. And that's where the Bob Daisley connection comes into play...

I think the band gets a bad rap. I thought Afternoon Delight was pretty good the first 10 times I heard it. I just didn't need to hear 5000 times over a 6 month period. It's the overexposure that killed that song*. I occasionally have the privilege of playing with a former member of that band who is a killer singer, keyboadist, guitarist and songwriter.
*One of these days soon I'm going to start a thread about "songs that deserved to be hits but which we now never need to hear again." Afternoon Delight, Don't Worry Be Happy, Freebird...

The Tubes :)
Their first album was great !!
:agree
I actually dig their early 80s stuff to, big +1!
Ken, I believe that the Ozark Mountain Daredevils did "Jackie Blue". If I remember correctly, it was on the first record I ever bought....a K-Tel record called Music Express (I think it also had The Captain Tennile's "Love will keep us together" on it!).
Opal.
Also a huge Feelies fan here, but they are now back together and in the public eye.
Speaking of Opal...
Rain Parade.
Saw the Feelies open for Lou Reed in about '88 and they were great. Lou wasn't bad either!

With all the guitar players that hang here I'm amazed that no one mentioned Television. Marquee Moon is one of the all time great rock guitar albums. The interplay between Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd is unsurpassed IMHO. Awesome Strat tones...with nary a cliche!

Drum roll please....How about "The Godz"!
Saw them open up for those white wearin', lip puckerin', big haired, keyboard sportin' freaks "Angel" out here in So Cal once upon a time and it was a real interesting contrast. The biker boys from Ohio put on a show still infamous in these parts. "Gotta keep a runnin', gotta keep a runnin'... Godz rock n roll!" I never saw hide nor hair of either of them again!
OK seriously...

I'm sure I saw them with Eddie and The Hot Rods - didn't the singer jump into the audience from the top of the PA stack?
Anyway - Lone Star - not the country band but late 70's Welsh band - I'll have to dig out the album but I remember them as a bit like Bad Co.?

I did a support tour with Lone Star in the 70s. Good band. Paul Chapman had left by then to join UFO

I loved the Stories' LP with "Louie Louie" on it - the whole record...I still do, great 70's pop record in an almost Elton John kinda vein...
And I loved Burning Senations from the early 80's...still have their vinyl and used to see them play live a lot...good times...
I believe you're talking about "Brother Louie". Ian Lloyd has a great voice. He is still around. Look him up on myspace. Does anybody remember The Monroes? Their hit song was "What do all the People know". How about all the bands Tony Burrows sang for. He sang for Edison Lighthouse, White Plains, the Pipkins, Botherhood of Man, First Class.

Rain Parade is one of my all-time favorite bands . . . well, their first album and then the follow up EP . . . great guitar tone (Gretsch)
Opal is good as well
and Camper is still playing . . . I think their best album is their relatively recent New Roman Times
They put on lots of fantastic wild shows back in teh 80s . . . I saw them lots since I went to Santa Cruz when they were students there too
