Does anyone have any soundclips of their superdrive 18 combo? I have a superdrive 30 head and love it but am constantly thinking of trading it for an 18 combo.

What makes you think about trading?

I had a SD18 combo and SD30 head/2x12 for a while. If you are wanting less volume, then just keep the SD30. The 18 really isn't any quiter, just a little less clean headroom.

Tonally, they are very similar. My SD30 is one of the older hand wired amps, and the SD18 was a Series II, so there were some differences. The Series I SD30 seems a bit more compressed than the Series II SD18 at lower volumes. The 18 seemed to "ramp up" in voume quicker and for low volume playing situations the SD30 actually works out better for me. I can't say how much difference there would be between the SD18 and SD30 Series II amps.

I kept the SD30 head and bought a used Budda 1x12 from a Forum member. I use the 1x12 for the occasions when I need a little less volume and don't want to move the 2x12. The only odd thing is that SD30 head is wider than the Budda 1x12 cab so it looks a little funny.

And for the record, I find the Budda amps to sound a bit mid-heavy in a 1x12 configuration with the stock speaker. I much prefered a G12M or a Red Fang in the 1x12 configuration.

Shouldn't this be in the amps section?

I had an SD30 1x12 and yeah it was real boxy and middy, even when run through a closed back cab. Real singy though, sounded great for a Brian May type tone. Not much bottom or top with the 30. I can't imagine the 18 having any bottom end. I still have an SD80 but that's a beast that only sees the light of day for gigs. I'd like to have the 45!

I've read many times before that the 30 and 18 are totally different amps? I was just wanting to try a little bit different sound. Volume is not really an issue.

The only difference between the 2 amps are 4 vs. 2 el84s, everything else is identical.
