Line 6 says minimum on 512 RAM, 1 GB Recommended...I have 512 on my IBM thinkpad. WIll I need more RAM for it to run smooth. Probably only do 3 or 4 tracks...

IMO, 512 isn't much RAM for a Windows computer. However, before you buy more RAM, just give it a try. Exit all of the other apps first.
