Well, for anyone that has been in, or grew up in a military family they know all about relocating every few years. I will be moving from the East coast to the west coast next week. I think i have everything covered with shipping my gear. here is my plan.

The military will come to my house and pack all my household items (to include all my guitar gear). I will be driving across country, and plan on taking with me my acoustic, Gibson LP custom, and maybe one other guitar (a 86 kramer). I also plan to take a few pedals and a Honeytone. My other guitars will have hard cases and i will make sure that they are secured (and not moving around) in those cases (with buble wrap or t-shirts). Pedals are easy, they will be secured in the pedal case. All the stuff pack by the military i will have to do without for around a month, maybe a little more.

Now packing my amps, i have a 69 fender twin, and a marshall 2555 with a slanted cab. I plan on taking out the tubes, wraping them in plastic bags, and them placeing the bags in bubble wrap before boxing up myself. I plan on making sure that the front side/grill cloth will be heavily pertected before the amps get packed and crated up.

is there anything i am missing that could increase my chances of getting my gear across county without any casualties?

thanks for any info

I was able to find interlocking foam corners for the inside of boxes for amps & cabs. Check them out plus foam sheets for the sides/top. Suhr uses them, I'm sure others do too.

You might want to short the speaker jack to keep the speakers from flopping around during the move.

I've gotta do the same thing in about 6 or 7 months. My wife is in the Air Force and we'll be moving after the beginning of the year

Yeah, this will be the first time i will move with a lot (for me) of nice guitar stuff. On my last move, i had a less expensive ibanez acoustic that suffered some neck warping while being in storage for a few months. But all my other guitars made it safely. I didnt have a real amp at that time, and no pedals. I like my amps, and it would be costly to replace them. i just want to make sure i do everything i can to prevent any damage. And i know nothing is going to be 100% safe.

If you have time, on any of your amp heads, block the transformers in using a piece of lumber and shimming it with cardboard. Anything that will hold them in place. Also, if you build a little crate around them using ferring strips (spelling, anyone in the construction trade) with masonite on the inside and packed with a bit of foam, that will protect the faceplates; that masonite is some pretty tough stuff as far as puncture resistance in case anything rattles around.

Good luck, and thanks for your service.
