Hey folks,

I can't imagine this would matter, but I'm throwing this out there just in case there's some hocus pocus I'm not aware of.

Is there ANY reason at all one couldn't/shouldn't use can style filter caps in place of axial filter caps?

I'm working on a layout and the Can types give me a bit more efficiency in terms of space consumption.

Thanks,

Paul

I think the only gripe about cans is that they cost more and over the years, some specific multi's have been difficult to come by.

Well the other gripe is that they promote bad ground layouts, at least as commonly implemented.

I COULD use dual axials and save space.

one thing about cans.....they have a common ground.

Some ground schemes specifically separate the ground paths of different nodes on the power supply ladder. The goal is to keep high-current areas separated from low current areas. I know my amps employ such a scheme, and it allows me to lower my noise floor considerably.

I can't do that with a commonly-grounded can.
