I don't think I like them, not quite sure why yet....what about you? Something sounds weird in the mids to me....but I only have the one.

Consistent, few rejects, low microphonics. A little bright in some amps, probably perfect in other amps.

I'm sure you've seen a fair few more than me Mike, but your analysis fits in perfectly with my experience too.

Perfect description,

I had a bad batch 3 years ago, but generally rejects have been far and few lately.

One thing for sure though, they work really well in my Marrantz 7 preamp.
I would have never guessed they would replace my tired old telefunkens so well.

This may sound weird but i love them in V1 position in Fender amps.

They want you to register just to read. Can someone say essentially what the consensus is there, if any?

I really the like the EH 12AX7. I think they sound great in Fender style amps. I find them full with plenty of oomph. In fact, those characteristics are what lead me to use other tubes, especially in V1 and the phase inverter slots, when I'd like to cut back a bit on the drive.

Essentially the LPF thread says the EH are flat/dull sounding.

Personally I like them better than JJs. I don't find them flat/dull at all. I use EH 12AX7s in my amps now, but I'd like to try the Tung-Sol RIs too.

I think the EHs, true to their russian heritage, have their high trebles rolled off slightly and have an over all compressed feel to them - too many of these in the signal path and the tone will get a bit spongy. Great for taming agressive pickups, like the ones I use.

In comparison the JJs are really agressive and are prone to ear fatigue.
