I have an old (1957) Silvertone amp that didn't sound very good at all. It had a very distorted sound sort of like a blown speaker, and it wasn't very loud at all. I bought some new tubes for it, installed the tubes, and it sounded louder but not too much better. Well the next day I turned it on and there was nothing. It makes a little buzzing sound when plugging or unplugging the guitar cord, but that's it. Any idea what is wrong and how to fix it?

Could be a lot of things. Is the speaker blown? Have you tried replacing the old tubes to see if that works? Could be all kinds of issues inside the amp as well. Might be best to take it to a tech to have it checked out.

Maybe toasted grid resistors on one or both power tubes?

Has the amp ever been serviced? Cleaned and recapped?
