Hey All,
I'm a blues player (as in Billy Gibbons, Robin Trower, Mick Taylor, Roy Buchanon) and I got a superb copy Les Paul (brandname Faster bought in Power Buy in Bangkok Thailand about 5 years ago, will post pics soon, built in Korea, considered top-of-the-line for Thailand at$400!! I'm not a brand snob and I can recommend picking up one of these next time you visit Thailand! ;)) and I'm finally refurbishing it with new machine heads and new Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro II's to be installed and rewired Jimmy Page-style (with push-pull pots: in series, out of phase, single coil or humbucker).
I also play acoustic country blues, including slide with open A and C tunings (again like Page but I play slide in regular tuning on the electric, like Taylor and Dwayne Allman) and a lot of folk, pop and rock. I also write music and will be buying a Tascam DPO1 (or the DPO1FX) home-recording unit in the near future as well.
I also have a Korg Pandora's Box that is extremely fun and motivating, you can hook it on your belt, plug in your guitar, put on your headphones and walk around playing along to the many Metronome settings with complete rhythm sections playing Blues, Reggae, Rock, and Funk, etc. in glorious stereo with your chosen guitar sound playing right over them: amazing! I don't even need an amp anymore (or a back-up band!) I just plug the mini-stereo jack into my home stereo auxiliary input (a "karaoke" input is even better) and man the bass response from bar chords muted with my pick hand are incredible (a nice approximation of EVH's "brown sound"). I learned the value of using powerful/portable home stereo units as an alternative to heavy/expensive amps while living in Asia, where large guitar amplifiers are not suitable for small apartments (really only necessary if you're in a band, imho) and neighbors are less likely to complain if the volume isn't too loud and it sounds like karaoke (you can sing as you play as well!).
I've let my guitar-playing slide in recent years so I hope buying the new equipment and joining this site with other like-minded people will keep me going.
Found this board serendipitously... looks good: lots of interesting topics and knowledgeable, detailed, useful advice, stuff guitar techs/salespeople often are too busy (or unsure) to answer.
Cheers!
