Ok so need some power tubes for my overtone...

question the one's that came in the amp 6L6GC STR tung sols have listed on top of the tube packet specs as such as
lp: 38 and
Gm: 3800

given that bugger all people carry these tubes in australia i have located some but the specs on those are
lp: 43
Gm: 4400

can someone explain to me the difference or what the terms represent and how that will affect the sound...

cheers
Dave

First, those are tube ratings given by whichever dealer or distributor tested them. Those sound like New Sensor (the company that owns Tung Sol Reissue, Sovtek, EH, etc) test ratings. If the ratings came from 2 different sources, there is more than likely no correlation since different dealers/distributors use different test equipment. If the labels look identical the distributor is likely the same.

These numbers are used when matching tubes. Ip means plate current. This will affect how much current the tubes will draw in your amp. That fact that the 2 sets have different Ip numbers means that you'll have to rebias when you install them.

Hey mike thanks for anawering my other post as well... the tubes are Tung-sol 6l6GC STR's thats what came with the amp..... (its the Overtone from the other post) and i like the sound... so thought the same might be cool... hoping though that i am not gonn go burning tubes that might get expensive.... but also hoping that they arent an unreliable thing too that might get expensive as well... especially getting them here to me in sydney and reasonably quickly... is there another tube/ brand/ or spec that you might suggest....??? the rebias is easy with the external probes and bias pot... i had these running at around 38mA .....

thanks
