Introducing, Valven. An OD that utilizes a very unique feature we call Tone Plugs. With Tone Plugs, all the distortional components are housed in high quality right angle plugs (Switchcraft, or course) that are instantly replaceable. With this setup, you can try different types without cracking open your pedal or having to monkey with your circuit board. If you elect not to use any plugs at all, Valven has a Tone Plug built into each Tone Plug "channel" that the unit defaults to when the port is unsused. The end result on your sound is a lot like changing out tubes in your tube amplifier. We currently offer 12 Tone Plugs, and more are being developed.

Left footswitch is the Main (true) Bypass. The right footswitch A/Bs between two sets of Tone Plug ports and boost switches. The core circuit is our own overdrive circuit that was designed to be as versatile as possible. It'a a very versatile circuit, and lends itself to many forms of useage. We can build this circuit to the specifications of many different types of ODs. With the proper Tone Plug and circuit construction, many of your favorite tones are available.

Like most Farndurk Custom Effects pedals, Valven comes in either Flat Black Powdercoat, or Semi-Polished Natural Aluminum. The enclosure we use is almost exactly the same size as a standard CD jewell case (in case you're wondering if one of these will fit on your pedalboard or not). In fact, a CD jewel case is about 1/8th of an inch (4 to 5mm) longer than our Valven (or Gemini, or Azura, or any other pedal we build of this size).

We have several sound clips available, write us at Brian@Farndurk.com (Brian@Farndurk.com) and we'll gladly send them to you.

Tone Plug equipped devices from Farndurk are the most versatile ODs we know how to build. Please hit our website for the FULL details on our construction methods, options, warranty, return policy, pricing, and more. www.farndurk.com (http://www.farndurk.com) Make sure to check out the Construction Details page, it fully explains all of the heavy duty and specialized hardware as well as the extra-mile-efforts we put in to the construction of every Farndurk device. We make several other effects pedals and we also do totally custom work as well. Please see our webpage for more details and if you have any questions, feel free to ask away.

Thanks much for looking at our little pedals. We'll be posting other product release threads soon.

Thanks a lot for the compliments, it takes quite a bit to get them to the point you see here.

Just gorgeous looking pedals! Congrats on some serious design. The tone plugs sound like a terrific idea, as well.

Absolutely amazing. Really very well done. You think with so many builders there wouldn't be anything new well you'd be wrong. You guys did a great job. The pedals look fab, the jacks are all in the RIGHT place and the prices are a steal. And your Tone Plugs are a gift at $12 each. :bow

Hey all,

I thought I'd post a quick reply after listening to the clips SiloScience sent over to me.

He sent 4 clips ....
"Clip3" - Valven circuit, I set this one up with less mids, more drive. This one was done with Tone Plug1.
Even though he commented he set it up with less mids., I thought I could still hear the mid-hump inherent to the TS808 circuit. But, this is not a bad thing ! The pedal was very, VERY articulate and actually pretty crunchy.
"Clip4" - Same as above, but with Tone Plug2
This one was crunchier yet, very nice. Maybe almost into Mad Prof. LGW / SBOD territory. Less mid-hump. Without hearing the rest of the Tone Plugs, this would be my choice for a mid-gain pedal !
"Clip6" - Valven with my Burgs comp feeding it. Bassman amp this time around.
I'm not really a pedal compressor fan., but I have to admit I liked the sound of the Burgs compressor. Enough to buy it ? Not sure .... But I'd definitely have to think about it. Maybe the "sunshine" model though ? I like the look of the safety switch ! I'd have liked to have heard the compressor with the gain used in on the Valven from Clip3 ? This clip was quite a bit cleaner, probably meant to show off the compressor more than the Valven ?
"Clip7" - Valven dimed, Tone Plug1, with some echo.
Very nice ! Considering Tone Plug1 was dimed, the pedal still sounded pretty open and frankly "cranked" seemed to lessen the mid-hump I heard in Clip3 ! I like to have a little in reserve, so I'd still probably prefer Tone Plug2, but this is still a very nice sounding mid-gain pedal !

Give these a look ! The design and build quality look to be second to none too !

Ok ... wow. I certainly did not expect that. I've been keeping my comments limited to pm's so far (avoiding "proxy bumping") but I feel I have to thank R.D. for the review. Thank you, I appreciate your taking the time to do this for everyone, and my self as well!

I'll be posting more clips with a better variety of Tone Plugs very soon. I have a broken finger (left index) that I'm dealing with currently so I'm recruiting for demos!

..... The demos I've been sending were done for me by Burger666. I can't thank him enough for the help on this issue ..... (that cat can jam!).

Thanks again R.D. I appreciate the coverage :)

No problemo with clips, happy to help. Just for the record, I am not a Farndurk employee. I have become an admiring friend of Brian's through enthusiasm for his work, which I think is amazing. Brian is sending me some new models soon I believe. Let me know what and how you'd like them demoed and I'll gladly oblige - I need the practice! :AOK

Brian, I would love to hear the clips. trlaw88@hotmail.com. Also, could you describe the varous tone plugs here. Thanks.

Thanks Todd. The Tone Plugs are numbered from Zero to 6 at this time.
Zero = "diode lift" Landgraff "mod".
1 = your standard set of clippers used in 99% of all ODs on the market today.
2 = Asymetric silicon diodes. Very "SRV-ish". We used to call this Tone Plug the TX1, for Texas Blues.
3 = A Farndurk Hybrid ... more open and less compressed than #2, a teeny bit crunchy too.
4 = Another Farndurk Hybrid ... even more open and less compressed than #3, still sings pretty nicely, still has that slight bit of crunch that #3 has too.
5 = Total crunch. Less compression than #4 and certainly more crunch. Gives that "edge of madness" breakup when tweaked right. Pretty hot signal at this point.
6 = Same total crunch as #6, and about as little compression as I can build into one of these things. Very loud plug, much low end too.

That's it for now. More on the way soon. For all the clips I have on both the Valven and Gemini (same circuit, actually) go to the clips thread, I have all my clips posted there! http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?p=4408447#post4408447

Thanks everyone for the comments. I don't normally thank each person on the thread so I don't get accused of bumping. so to all those folks I haven't thanked just yet ... thanks tons!

And thanks for the orders, too!!! :banana

I bought a Farndurk custom Fuzz and I have to say the thing is terrific. Here is a fuzz that holds together pushing a pegged JTM45. Bright aggressive with a lot of adjust ability. I am so impressed I am working to get at least one more custom built by Farndurk. :)

Yes.... (for now ;)). Stay tuned!!

I currently have 8 different pedals that use the Tone Plug system. Some are OD's like the Valven, and a few are all out distortion pedals, like my "X" and "Z" (my new Eliminator era tones pedal). And since this thread was first posted we have added several Tone Plugs to inventory as well. We now offer 12 different Tone Plugs. Some feature germanium components. Voicing features have been added to the Valven as well.

My all new website is going online Sunday eve, there is much more info there. The entire line has been upgraded.

Thanks!!

These look very, very cool. These will definitely go on my list of overdrives to look at when I'm ready to buy another one.
