Suggestions for a HIGH GAIN OD Pedal.... Sorry guys on the tone thing I guess lets go with Van Halen- I use a Bogner XTC and I like the gain sound on that amp - I have a wonderful Aiken Intruder that needs a pedal in front of it to get gain so again looking for an older Van Halen type sound-I like a brighter sound-

Thank You-

What kind of high gain are you talking about? Van Halen? Metallica? Slipknot? [insert name of Nu-Metal band here]?

So many people start throwing suggestions out without having any idea of the type of tone the original poster is after.

With such a general question, try using the "search" feature for the 1000 other guys who had your same question.

Very important question right here. If you buy a great high gainR and you dont like it, its because you didnt think about the context the pedal will be used in. Im naming the ones I think are superior becasue I have tried many of the pedals allready list before me. The first ones are my fav but may more $.

Heavy classic rock with open mids - Landy Mod or Emma ReezaFratZitz

EVH and low heavy rock - Wampler Pinnacle 2 or Zvex BOR

Metal - AMT Duhast or DNA GainFxxer ( Havent tried these two pedals but they arent too $$... I dont like metal )

Scooped mids, 80's rock, Joe satriani - Fetto or Keely Modded Boss DS-1

Les paul less compressed rythym ( or low gain strat stuff ) - BJFE DRD or Purple Plexi 800

Depending on your amp and playing style, none of these may hit the mark. Get ready to go through at least 3 pedals before you like one... its part of the game because YOUR idea of whats good will change in the process. You need to ask yourself more questions and ask us more detailed questions.

The Toneczar Openhaus is supposed to be awesome for high high gain but I havent tried it..

I'm really enjoying my recent purchase of a Dyna Red Distortion. Does low to high gain very well.

For that Van Halen sound in a box,, I found both the Wampler Pinnacle 2 and the Cmatmads Brownie to work well. I wound up keeping the Pinnacle because it seemed to cover the Brownie well and do a whole lot more.
I also keep an Emma reezafratzitz on my board which has beat out numerous high gain pedals including the Crunch Box.

Try building your own BSIAB from a kit (like General Guitar Gadgets). It's not that hard.

The wampler pinnacle 2 then. That or the Mod would give a nice raw sound with those amps.
