My situation is this: I have a problem that seems to be related to V5 of this amp. This tube is the "drive" tube for the 2nd Channel of the amp.

The sypmtom is similar to what people have described as the coupling cap being blown or flat out not working. Super flabby, way over compressed and lacking any definition. No, I don't have the gain dimed. This fella here, had his settings at 7 on gain and 7 on drive and had a SD-1 out front for tightness. I have an SD-1 and when I replicated his settings, my amp sounded NOTHING like his. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtPkQ1_t9OQ

I am using a 7025 in V3 (first stage), a 12AX7A in V4 (second stage), and Tung Sol reissue in V5 (stage 3/"drive").

Can anyone take a look at the above info and let me know what I should look into? The amp is playable on all settings except Channel 2 with Drive engaged. And I have also done the test where I just plug straight into the power section. It is perfectly fine so I know the problem is in the preamp.

Thanks!

This is from the video page:
\I used an Boss SD-1 or a MXR Wylde Overdrive to tighten the sound, but didn't use it for any extra gain. Now i don't use either, i use a Maxon OD808 now.
The secret is the TS808 Tube Screamer into a tube amp on the edge (which is most likely 2 or 3 on the preamp gains).

Oh and I totally do not disagree with you at all. I don't care for the SD-1 much as it sits now, but it will be getting modded to TS specs fairly shortly. I had a Maxon which I loved...Used to push my 50 watt Marshall with it exclusively.

But this amp definately has a problem with that Drive function. No stomp box on the planet will tighten it up at all which makes me think that there is an internal issue of some sort.

Any ideas? Can someone point out the coupling caps so I can check the values?
