I NEED HELP! w/ Mixer/Speaker

So our PA crapped out after a bunch of years. were moving onto a mackie dfx-6 that has 4 xlr channels and 2 stereo 1/4" channels. my question is, if i plug in a pair of speakers to the output of the mixer, will it power the speakers? OR do i need to purchase an amp to power the speakers?
