I think its about time for some of the gear hoarders to post they're vintage axes, lets say, anything pre 1980. Im sure some of you have got some gems (aka pre-cbs fenders etc.) and some of you have got some wacky old guitars as well (old japanese things and airlines, danelectros etc.)

Lets Have em!!!

Your thread, so your rules, but "vintage" implies pre 1970, and for a lot of collector's the cutoff is more like '65. One can make an argument for the '68 Les Paul due to its desirable features and some late '60s Strats because of Jimi.

That said, here is my '68 Goldtop, purchased in December, 1968:

My 1966 Hallmark Sweptwing.
Apparently given to Robby Krieger of the Doors in 1966 by Hallmark Guitars.

I'm told by the owner of Hallmark guitars that less than 50 Sweptwings were made in the mid-60's.
This is the only Gold Sparkle that was made...

Unfortunately they were in a closet 4' above the level of Lake Ponchartrain and we got 5' of water in my house in NOLA during Katrina.

Sure do miss those guitars -- all I was able to save was the neck pu from the 225; everything else was too messed up to fix, given the general shambles the rest of my house, not to mention the rest of the city, was in.

~j

I'm really sorry to hear about that- not just your guitars, but all of it.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. I hope that everything is coming around for you.

I'm looking at my post now and I feel like I injected buzzkill in a very cool thread, sorry 'bout that, I've removed the post.

It's all good; guitars are just guitars, and while my old hollowbodies were lost I saved a few guitars and amps that were in the flood and still gig some of them regularly. I think of myself as a survivor, not a victim, and we've moved on nicely.

Thanks for your concern and kindness,

~j

Not really in y'alls league but:
There's no such thing as a "league". It s not a competition :D Your birds looks awesome.
Maybe : The league of the Vintage nerds gentlemen ?
I hope that most people here don't rank and rate vintage guitars because of their price tag. Some cost more than others, some are rarer than others but it;s all about how much we love em at the end of the day ...

Speaking of 68 custom :D here s one 100% with tags etc one piece neck and body.
http://www.toneseeker.net/TGP%20LP/68-custom.jpg

52 Tele, featherweight one piece "Eddie" body, rather big D Tadeo's neck, slightly played for 56 years but all there...

http://www.toneseeker.net/TGP%20LP/52-tele.jpg

Very early 60 335 long guard with all 59 specs, neck and double white PAF's, very early 330 with early 60 specs. Funny part is that the original owner ordered em both at the same time in Dec 59 and picked em up the same day on 3rd Feb 1960... Talking about transition guitars.

http://www.toneseeker.net/TGP%20LP/335-330.jpg

I d post a few more when I get home :D not many pix on this puter.

Aw geez-I got drool on my shirt....but this many sweet axes can do that. Check out this near mint 61 SG/LP Std-a real treat to see one this well preserved. It's not mine, but belongs to a good buddy that is retiring and moving to Florida-he told me he might be selling it-I could never buy it-just way too clean to play, I'd rather have a played in one that I don't have to worry about scratching. I figure one like this is pretty much for a collector to preserve.http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t227/bugnduck/martyparty110.jpg

More of that modern stuff. The two Kliras (the jazzmaster-loolalike and the red one behind it) qualify as vintage (barely, very early 70's - late 60's)
