Mcinturff Taurus Pup Recommendation?

I have a wonderful McInturff Taurus Standard that is my favorite guitar. I currently have a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates in the bridge and find it too bright and harsh. I'm looking for a warmer, more vintage LP type tone. Can anyone recommend a good replacement pup for the bridge? Thanks!

Had them in a Taurus. Neck PU was to die for. Bridge PU could have a little more output, was good for me though. They work extremely well in the combination with the longer scale of the Taurus.

I've had good results with Wolfetone Marshallheads, WCR Darkbursts, Fralin PAF, and the TOL pickups that are custom made for Terry. The Voodoo '59s sound fantastic too.

I'm getting a fantastic sound from the low-output Fralins in my Morgaine. IMO they give a *very* good vintage LP tone. OTOH this may mean that the difference with your neck pickup becomes too large.

I still have the original Zodiac, but think I'd like to go with something like a PAF. I'm not sure what the Zodiac is based on, but I want to get the bridge as smooth and warm sounding as possible.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I'm leaning towards the Seth Lover. I had one in a different guitar and really loved the tone.

If you desire a "warm, smooth" tone in the bridge position, I am not sure that a Seth will give you that in a Taurus. It might, tonal descriptions being so subjective........

I used to offer bridge pos. Seths in the old TCM Polaris, but I found that the high E was a bit "zingy", and in those guitars was not what I'd call "warm".

The trick is to have a rounded, flutey top without having too much output (unless you like that sort of thing!).

Also...a true PAF style repro such as the Seth, VooDoo, etc..will probably require you to go to a 3-way switch, and to mod the wiring accordingly...because (IMO) true PAF's are rather poor when split. Each individual coil is pretty weak.

You may want to consider the Alnico Pro II, or call Peter Florance and talk to him regarding a version of the '59. All of the models that Biggerstaff and others have mentioned are really fine in thier own rights.

Has anyone compared a Seth Lover to the other PAF style pups from the boutique makers?

I compared 2 different Les Paul's at one point.

One with a Seth and the other with a Tom Holmes. I felt the Seth was definitely in the family and probably got me 75%-80% of the way to the Holmes. Not bad at all for a pup that is 3x less in cost.

Of course I don't how much of the difference was in the two different guitars and if the extra cost is worth the difference in tone.

I wouldn't hesitate on another Seth since I sold the guitar they were in.

I have a DRP Taurus, (rosewood neck, zodizc inlay) that was originally built for Chris Strong. It has Fralins that split & sounds fanatastic in every position. Terry, can you tell us what pickup model this is?
