View Full Version : AxeFX Testing: Simple Cleanish Voxy patch w/ my #1 Tele

I love the sound of a Tele through a Vox-voiced amp so I messed around a little bit with the Top Boost amp sim and cabs in the AxeFx and found a decent match. This is comletely dry, no FX, no graphic EQ, nothing post - Just Tele with Glendale steel saddles / Voodoo bridge pup, AxeFX Top Boost patch into soundcard/computer. Sooooooooooo simple and easy :)
I might reuse this little "riff" and go overboard with production someday. I can't describe how nice this sounds with a touch of verb, especially through my 2x12 with Weber Blue Dogs, but here 'tis dry. 300 plus patches to go!

Thanks, I'm going to dig a little deeper and try to apply some more of the cab sim's and FX that the Axe has to offer. This is fun stuff indeed.

Word of warning for that amp, don't overheat the tubes; make sure you've got that amp in a well ventilated place.

Hi,
This is the first take of ANY modeller that I've heard that actually reminds me of my old Vox.
Thanks for posting.

Every other clip I've heard of the Axe was a little lifeless and stale.
BUT YOURS SOUNDS LIKE A REAL AC-30! :dude
Nice job on the sound and playing. I could gig with that sound.

Very nice job.
Your tone is very big and has all those Vox qualities that most of us knuckleheads go chasing.
To me, if that 'direct' tone can be had direct thru FOH and similar back through the monitors - why bring any cab (or powered speakers etc) at all.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys! Remember, I'm just getting going with this new stuff and there is a lot more available that I have not tapped into yet. I just wanted to get a really dry patch (even if it wasn't exactly what I would use to record a part) out there. I'll do some more, I think importing some IR's (cab sims) for a little more life like ambience will help, but I'll keep em dry.

greg, that is super clean stuff.
get me some dirt! just some breakin' up stuff. . .and.. . dry be damned. i want to hear how YOU want it to hear!!!
your chops are very articulate. play sloppy so i don't feel so bad. . .
I don't know if I'm alone on this, but the AxeFX has impressed me far more from this dry, no effects track than all the other effects laden tracks I've heard combined.
Great demo here.
I agree! Very organic sounding. Super stuff. Thanks!

Greg can you set up a sound like a 1X12 blackface pro-reverb amp.. with fat tone (not thin & bright) & heavy-ish moderate compression.. something like Modern country.
Im really wanting to hear how the AXEFx performs in this area... so far I have heard no clips of this

Very nice. One of the better Axe-FX tones I have heard and nice playing too!
For comparison purposes below are a couple of clips of a Valvetech Hayseed. Make your own conclusions.
