Anybody know of a good Pro Tools studio in Northern Virginia or at least the metro Washington DC area?
We need a place to do drums by the end of July and our regular guy is booked into late September already. Cost is somewhat of an issue, but we're willing to pay what it takes to get a good place.
Thanks for any help...

Chiba,
I've done a lot of session work at Bias and Blue House, and both are excellent. Bias would be my first choice.

If they're out of your budget range try Gantt Kushner's studio in Silver Spring. His website is

It really depends on your budget etc... Are you making a demo, album, ep, or live recording? Also, what are you looking to spend. I've recorded in a lot of studios in the area. It really comes down to $$$ and goal.

Thanks for the suggestions FVB.
We're looking to stay in the about $50/hr range, this project will eventually be our 2nd album.
The first album was recorded like this - drums in a big studio, then I did everything else, then back to the big studio to mix.

Chiba, give Shannon Walton at Sonic Boom a call. He is a drummer himself and really knows his stuff. He's very goal oriented, and gives you your money's worth. He has an assistant do the Pro Tools thing. His hourly charge is what you're looking for, too. His studio is now in old town Warrenton, VA - a bit of a drive, but I think you'll be happy. His number is 540-428-2933.

You might also want to hit up Frank Marchand... he's in Annapolis, MD area. His studio is waterford digital. Lots of national stuff coming out of there. Fantastic studio, and a lot of gear to use....

Is that the same Shannon Walton that used to have a studio in Burke/Springfield?? If so, I've recorded with him before, about 10 years ago.

Yes, it is the same Shannon Walton. That was a nice space he had there in that light industrial park in Burke, when it was known as Walton Recording, but circumstances changed with his partner so he had to find new space.
