That was cool Jack. Very thorough & also entertaining.
I'd like to have one of these things.

Beautiful tone! What were your amp and guitar settings? What were you using for ambience and how was it set? How about speakers? You are getting such a warm fat tone! I love it! Great and tasteful playing as well! Thanks!

Prior to plugging into the 100v tap, my ceriatone plexi was set master, pres, treble, mid bass at 12:00 and both preamp volumes at 9 O'Clock. When I plugged into the 100V tap, I bumped the master up all the way. Cabinet was a jdesign 2x12 closed back w/greenbacks, close mic'd with a sennheiser E609.

Edwards LP w/ Lollar mins going into an Eventide Timefactor and T-Rex Roommate verb.

Awesome! Just can't get over how warm and fat that sounds with just the right ambience, and again, great playing! Thanks!

Try it again. I posted that unedited version.

Jack, As usual very informative. Thanks for posting these, I've enjoyed your clips. I was hoping you would expand on the UA, as I'm close to purchasing this unit. My primary rock/fusion amp is a early SF Pro Reverb. Unfortunately, I haven't heard many clips using a overdriven Fender amp.

i'll try to borrow a fender and do a demo with it.

Is this attenuator any better than the other competitors out there? I don't know much about these devices - just curious to hear some thoughts about what's worth buying.

Thanks for the demo Jack, it sure seems like a solid unit.

Yes, it's very different technology than most passive attenuators.

Straight to the point, plain and simple. The perfect demonstration clip. And boy, does that thing work. If you turn up the computer monitors to match the level as he lowers the volume it sounds like nothing ever changes. Even at a whisper the character is largely unaffected. Great job!

And here's another clip I did of some pickups but also using the UA at loud talking level. This is very fenderish for those questioning whether it works with that gain structure:

Hi Jzucker...... I would love to see you doing a review and demo on isolation boxes for recording..... like the Axe Trak or the Grendel Isolation Room.

I'd love to but they're a bit expensive for doing a demo. If someone wants to lend me one, I'll do a review!

Thanks for the reviews, they are really helpful. I ordered a UA and I can't wait to A/B it with my THD Hotplate.

Jack, how are you mic'ing your amp? The tone is coming through perfectly.

close mic'd with a sennheiser e609 on one speaker and a CAD M179 on the other

jzucker

cad m179 is about 2" from the grill cloth...Only because of the shock mount.

Great demo, Jack. Thank you for the awesome public service!!! :)

For me, the best part of it was the end where you normalized output levels. That's really the ultimate test (pun intended) of an attenuator. Well, I have to say, this unit seems to have been improved upon since I owned one years ago, shortly after they first hit the market. Back then, they changed the tone dramatically, although in a way that most people would find pleasing. Have you had the chance to compare the UA to the Bad Cat Leash? The Leash has been receiving some extremely positive reviews.

Jack,

You really have stepped it up with your video demos. Not that the older ones were bad, but it seems that you've gone to another level. IMHO, the best demo videos that I've seen anywhere.
