Hey out there, I just bought a fairly nice Tele and upgraded the pickups with a set of Muy Grande From the Rio Grande Co. Very decent sounding pickups. But as ussual, neck - very nice, Middle - very nice, bridge - too thin, too trebely. I know its the bridge position, but is it possible to get a little more meat/warmth in the bridge in a Tele with some kind of pickup out there? Please help!!

Try a Fralin Broadcaster. Call Lindy up and tell him what you want.

actually , the Muy Grande is already a little dark and overwound - so a Fralin Broadcaster isn't gonna be much "beefier"
Maybe a Lollar Special ??
it's a little TOO thick for my taste but if the Muy Grande isn't thick enough for you - you may really like the Lollar Special

Contact Don Mare and he'll guide you to tele pickup nirvana...

Wire a .001 capacitor from the hot lead of the bridge pickup at the switch (in the bridge pickup position) and to ground. (Use a set of jumpers for testing) If that doesn't do it, try a .0047.... I've got a .001 in mine. These two caps are readily available at Radio Shack. You can get that bridge pickup sounding like your neck pickup if you put a high enough capacitor on it. (Thanks to Deaf Eddie for turning me onto this when I had the same problem.)

Thanks guys, I really am quite pleased with the Muy Grand's. I have a set of Fralin's blues in one of my Strats and really like 'em alot, And Jason Lollar and Don Mare I know are the guys at the top of the food chain in the pickup world, though I haven't used them yet, YET! I definately will get around to it I know though. I have my guitar tech always install the cap and or resistor thing on all my guitars for smooth rollback and so on, and have begun lately doing alot of these kinds of things on my own. So I'll get a cap on it and try that before I replace the bridge PU with another and get back to you all with my findings. Thank you all so much!

Try lowering the treble side more relative to the bass side.
Plus roll your tone knob

I just heard a late '60's Tele with some Fralin's in it. Sounded incredible.

Great input! I'm going to try a Mare! Lollar winds some good stuff. I have that A3 staggered thingy he did with GVCG.
Off the shelf smokey, bluesy with the nice warm midrange, yet with the tele punch and sparkle is a Fralin Blues Special.

Check out Zhangliqun Pickups. His Paul Bunyan tele bridge pup is an exceptional sounding pickup for what your after. For even more beef, check out his Twangsmoker. Fantastic pickups at a very reasonable price.

Lollar Special with a .047 cap (Orange Drop is my favorite), 250k pot, roll the tone knob just off the top. Works the best with a rosewood/alder duo but works on a maple/ash build as well.

Do you use the tone knob much on your neck pickup? If not, you can move the wire from the tone knob onto the switch tab that the bridge hot connects to, so it only affects the bridge and bridge/middle. That will brighten up your neck pickup a hair.
