I'm really digging my new Hamer 25th Anniversary Mahogany that I got from JimFog. I was taking a big chance being a Tele guy and trying out a set neck, shorter scaled LP type guitar, semi-hollow but it kills.
I've been playing my AxeFX through a SS power amp into my Avatar 2x12 loaded with Weber Blue Dogs (ceramics) and I wanted to test micing the cab to see how that compares with some of the direct to disk recording I've done. Well, I like it a lot... which means I need to tweak my patches with the cab sims some more; or just enjoy it as is -
:banana

This is just a run throug patches on the AxeFX with the Hamer and an AKG C3000 about 1 foot away into my sound card. Oh yea, this is with power amp sims ON <I feel my ss power amp is pretty sterile, so using the power amp sims seems to impart more of the amp sound that I'm looking for> but with cab sims OFF:

Mighty impressive. I could make any of those tones work within the context of a mix.

Wow, really great tones. And to think they're all coming out of one unit. Very impressive. It's good to hear some dry clips. That thing sounds great!

Thanks for doing that. I'm getting one of these in a week and those tones just reconfirmed my decision.

Thanks for the clips.

Do you prefer the mic'd sound or the direct sound?

Thanks all! I prefer the sound mic'd only because I did not experiment enough with tweaking cab/mic sims and I did not try to upload any custom IR's that are out there to get that real "amp in the room" sound.
But, I think in a full mix the direct to disk sounds might actually work even better. YMMV.

I don't know if the SLO patch sounds like a SLO or not (never heard one), but it sounds darn good! So do those Weber Blue Dogs, great speakers.

On the Boogie clip, it was all lead, can you do some Boogie/Rec rhyhtm playing sometime.

One day I am going to learn to stay OUT of these threads. I was so happy with my rig until now. Sir, you are an evil man. ;)

Kidding aside, great tone and playing. Thanks for posting!

What make and wattage power amp are you using? Is your 2X12 cab wired for stereo, mono, both? Build those patches from scratch or were they edited presets? What firmware? I thought they ALL sounded really good. Reason I ask is I'm going to be trying my new Standard 5.19 with a similar configuation. I'm demoing a Carvin DCM150 to use with the Axe into guitar cabs that I own- Dr. Z 1X12 open back w/ G12H-30 or Mojave 2X12 semi-open back w/ CelEstion Blues. Will be using Strat, Tele, R7. Thanks, and Again, Great Job!

Hi Anthony, I answered your questions in a PM but I figured I'd reply here as well.

What make and wattage power amp are you using? - Alesis RA100, built for studio monitors, NOT pushing a cab but I guess it did okay. Solid State, pretty neutral. My guess is your Carvin will be better

Is your 2X12 cab wired for stereo, mono, both? - The cab is wired for mono; it's a 2x12, one speaker mic'd about 6 - 10" away using a fairly inexpensive AKGC3000

Build those patches from scratch or were they edited presets? - All edited presets. Really not too much tweaking at all. I would decide what amp I wanted, find a patch that used the amp, basically bypass most of the FX and that was it. Pretty low level tweaking, quick satisfaction!

What firmware? - 5.19

- Dude, you'll have sooooooooo much ground covered with that rig.

Thanks, and Again, Great Job! - I personally think approaching your config as a preamp -> power amp -> GUITAR voiced speaker cab it will sound great. If you can run in stereo with some separation between the cabs (even just a foot or two) you probably won't be able to lift your jaw off of the floor ;)
