I don't want to start another thread about how good the Ho attenuator is. It is, but I just got my 2 volume control Ho and let me tell you, this is more than just an attenuator. It really opens up the possibilities for achieving great cleans and great gain.

Here's what I did. I set up the attenuator for my gain channel. Got the level where I wanted it. I use a Budda SD 45 and the settings were Master, Bass, Mid, Treble all at 1 O'clock with the drive at 2 O'clock and the volume control on the attenuator at 10 O'clock. Everything sounded great! Then I started dialing in the cleans. I switched to the clean side of the Budda and switched to the 2nd volume control on the attenuator. I ended up with the amp's Rhythm set to 9 O'clock with the attenuator volume at 3 O'clock. With these settings the SPL's were about the same between clean and gain. But because I was not overdriving the amp at all and barely attenuating it, it had so much clean headroom it was amazing.

This is more than just an attenuator allowing loud amps to be played at nominal SPL's. This device actually gives your 2 channel head alot more versatility by giving each channel the optimum operating conditions.

All I can say is WOW!

Where are you finding this dual master volume/two channel amp version? I'm on the site and I can only see the single-knobbed one. I'm becoming more intrigued about this, as the Quick Rod has a dirty and a clean channel.

i jus t recieved my ho unit, and had the same experience as you with both channels. It seemed to really open up my amp, which is a tophat emplexadorII.I was able to turn a single channel amp into a two channel amp with incredible tone.

The two volumes is a great trick - even with a single channel amp. Rather than use volume 2 as a lead volume boost, I keep my 2nd volume quite low compared to my #1. Because i generally play with my guitar volumes down, when I switch to #2 on the UA, I bring my guitar volume all the way up. Using that setup, on vol 2 I get all the gain without crazy volume. It's the best "overdrive" pedal I own.

So how is it wired from the amp? assuming your amp doesn't have separate pre amp outputs? - or do you have to hit two footswitches? one to switch the amp and one to switch the attenuator?

It is available, obviously from both sources. I haven't checked out the UA site but maybe a call to them will get all the info you need.

I didn't get the effects loop since I use the loop in the head. I'm sure it sounds great but to be sure, how does it sound in comparison to the loop in the amp?

I have to say that this attenuator has really brought out the best of both channels. It makes my setup so versitile that I don't think anyone should be without one. Unless you either don't need two amp channels or you want to carry two heads.

This may be the most exciting "effect" I've had in a very long time!

Unless you are using a switching system, yes you would have to hit two footswitches.

I am using a G-System and it has built in relays so I use one for the amp's footswitch and the other for the Ho. Very slick indeed!

Nice - bet that sounds great. I assume the Ho is happy doing that on the fly? - Or rather your amp is happy doing that on the fly!

...Also, with the G-system can you wire the OD to the front of the amp and the mod/delay to the loop?

That's one of the downfalls of the G-System. You cannot change the configuration of the pedals that much. They all go into the loop. At least that's what I understand.

Wonder why? Most people want OD at the front.

And you would think it would be easy to add that feature. Oh well, maybe I'm missing something.

What does Ho charge for his products...last time I looked at his site no prices were listed.

You can get his attenuator with a loop? Does anyone have experience with using it? Is it an effective way to take a non-looped amp and get wet effects in without an entire re-amp setup? Because, to me, that means this little box changes every old great head into something I could use.

Very interested in that, need to go check the site.

Give Ho a call. He'll make you anything he can.

He can even make an attenuator that has a wet/dry setup. With one speaker out and one loop with a speaker out at the end of the loop!!!

Call Mr. Ho and ask him.

Actually I have the correct answer to your question. All loops (your pedals) are in front of the guitar amp's input. The G-System's effects (mod, delay, reverb etc...) are in the amp's loop.

Here's mine with a loop.

How well does the loop work? Are you running a wet/dry?

jackaroo,
can you post a pic with the wiring out of the amp into the Ho?

Right now I'm waiting to wire my cab in stereo. But I can just do the blend from the delay unit. It sounds great.

When I get it all set up I'll take pics and do clips.

Wiring is easy:

Guitar
Amp
Speaker out to Attenuator
Mains to Dry cab

Send to FX
Return to Attenuator
FX output to wet speaker
