Just wondering if there are any current production EL84s that you have tried and actually liked. I've only tried the JJs, but don't really have an opinion on them one way or the other at this point . . .

For the price, the new production stuff is pretty decent. I've only personally used JJs and Sovteks. While I personally prefer NOS stuff - both the JJs and Sovteks sounded fine. I preferred the JJs a bit more myself.

For current-production EL84's, about the best out there is TAD and JJ IMHO. Although a set of Mullards or Amperex "Bugle Boys" would certainly sound better, the JJ's and TAD's aren't bad and are pretty consistent, which is one of the biggest beefs I have with many current-production tubes.

Cheers!

Maybe I'll try a pair of the TAD EL84-STR's.

We've had a lot a great results with the TAD's and JJ's over the last several years now. We used to get a lot of requests for the EH's and Sovtek's, but that seems to be decreasing more and more.
