View Full Version : 5E3 and 6L6WGB
On KCA site it says you must re bias. Is this done w/ resistors or ??? Can I just pop them in place of the 6V6 `s ?? I have a Mission 5E3. I have a bunch of 6L6WGB`s and would like to try them in my Deluxe. Thanks in advance.

If your using a 5Y3 rectifier, you can switch to a 5AR4 and use the 6L6's.

Not unless the manufacturer confirms that the power transformer is ok with 6L6s.
The heater current requirement for 6L6s is higher than 6V6s.

A Fender circuit that uses 6L6 series output tubes and is like a 5e3's big brother is the 5e5------ 5e5 amps use iron sized for 6L6 series tubes--- the PT is rated to support even a 5u4gb rec tube (this rec also allows higher 1st stage filtering)--- PT also has current capacity to allow a pair of cathode biased 6l6's to put out @30 watts--- the OT is also spec'ed for 6l6 use as far as primary Z and current capacity.
5e3's are designed for 6v6 tubes--- many people sub in 6l6's, and there is probably some tone difference, but try playing a 5e5 circuit sometime---- it will be an eye-opener...................gldtp99
Thanks. As I have a MM OT designed for 6V6`s I guess I`ll have to pass. Thanks all.. Greg

The OT isn't as critical as the PT though an underated OT won't allow you to achieve the full potential of using 6L6s.
