Feast your eyes on this (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Martin-D28-Authentic-Acoustic-Guitar?sku=513360).

WTF?

Of course you could have 1960's model for one third of that.

(the auction IS NOT mine, used for comparison)

I realize the MF one is based on a 1937 vintage........but if you've got enough coin to drop on the "reissue".....you might just have enough to get the real thing.

I could buy a bunch of used Dodge Neons for the price of that Martin...but I really don't want either.

I work at a Martin dealer. My rep pulled up the other day and pulls this case out of his car, I knew exactly what it was. It was the '37 Authentic D-28. It was an AMAZING guitar, he was trying to get us to buy it. It was a great guitar, I've played 2 real old D-28's, a 1937 and a 1942. This Reissue was spot on and sounded pretty clost to what those originals did (from memory), and it blew the standard and even the custom Martin's out of the water. The 1937 I played they wanted $105k for it, so at $31k, if you have that to throw on a guitar, was a pretty good deal.

I'm sure it is nice, but Brazilian just isn't worth it to me. It is incredibly rare these days (especially a set like they would have used 50 years ago), which leads to speculation on the part of builders, sellers, and resellers. I think McPherson charges a $4K upcharge for it and Collings isn't building with it at present.

I do like the D18 Authentics a lot. They street in the $6K price range and I think they are worth it.

Yeah how can that cost so much more than a D-18 Authentic I wonder.

In truth, you can't even get close to a pre-war herringbone D28 for that kind of money. 50K in terrible condition. Excellents from 75K and up.

And that guy wanted about 4 or 5 grand too much for that '60 D-28.

I agree with both Ogre & Steve. *Most* pre-war D's are in the $100K plus range if they are in decent condition at all.

The linked auction is STOOPID too. I looked right after it ended (at over $9K) and the reserve wasn't met. Gee, wonder why?

My point of this post was to illustrate how out of touch with reality *some* people are with actuality. You can rest assured, if I had $40K to invest in a guitar....it certainly wouldn't be on a reissue Martin....though I am CERTAIN it is a great guitar. It is just WAYYYYY overpriced IMHO.
