View Full Version : have memory lane, thinking of going digital...?

I currently have a diamond memory lane, and whilst its a great delay, i find that even with the modulation off, it still tends to blur out the end of the note leading into the next one... and makes it all sound a little mushy... i've played around a bit with the settings and i generally run the EQ at 12:00 and the mix about 9:00...

I'm really looking for a clearer repeat as i use it 95% of the time for soloing...

would a digital pedal be the way to go here... and if so what do people recommend; t-rex replica, tc nova and what about the empress super delay...?

cheers

I have the same issue. What some people call sterile, I hear as clarity.

If money isn't an issue, do yourself a favor and buy an Eventide Timefactor. I've seen a few used ones on eBay recently in the $325-$350 range. The other pedals you mentioned are all really nice but when it comes to digital delay, it's hard to beat the TF.

I say the easiest switch for you would be the Trex Replica. Nice, analog-ish delay but cleans up very well. Tap Tempo, dotted 8ths (for rhythm stuff)... the industry standard, really.

I agree with the recommendation for the Replica. And not just because it's straight-forward to use. It sounds great, is smooth but far more detailed than the Memory Lane (I also loved the ML). If the OP finds the Memory Lane dark/mushy, he's probably not going to like any other analog delay (at least the ones I've used).

As a disclaimer, I haven't heard the Timefactor (yet), don't know what I may be missing.

Replica.

Like zenfreud said, if you don't like the sound of the ML, chances are you may not like the 'analog' delay tone (de-grading, lo-fi).

If delay is your thing, then you'll never be completely satisfied with your delays unless you get a timefactor.

no love for the tc nova... of the tc eventide and empress is the eventide the pick of the bunch?

are they true bypass the eventide and nova?

eventide is switchable between buffered bypass and hard wire bypass.

TC nova is just a buffered bypass.

The timefactor is nothing short of absolutely amazing.

Empress Superdelay.

I would suggest the Timefactor especially considering the issues you are having with the Memorylane. The Memorylane 2 looks to be amazing though! I would look at the Skreddy Echo as well.
The Replica is a great straight digital delay but I didn't like the effect on my tone when bypassed.

why not keep it, and get a timefactor as well?

I like the Time Factor and Replica - both have great sound. I was going to say if you're doing basic stuff go with the replica and save some $$ but then I looked at it's price and they're the same. TF is my recommendation.

Why didn't you like the TC? I've never played one and it seemed like it had nice features. Small too. I don't know anyone that has it, so any comments would be great....

Surprized no one mentioned a Boss DD-20, easy to use, a spill over that actually works (the Time Factor's spill doesn't do what I want it to do, keep a loop/long delay from stopping). Has some really great sounds, 27 seconds of delay instead of 3 seconds (TF only has 15 for the looper, more if you go lo-fi). Half the price, too.

Thing is, with the 27 seconds, you can use it as a looper (and less switching around like on the TF) AND after switching to another preset, keep adding on to that loop with whatever patch you have after, say a reverse delay. Can't do that with the TF. I think they dropped the ball on that one. And in the months I've had the TF, it's a little twitchy programming, especially on the expression pedal. I have to say it SOUNDS great tho, a little less noisy than the DD-20. Just get ready to be programming for months, lol.........
