I’ve been on a guitar hunt for quite some time now and am coming up dry. A friend suggested I post here, saying that, in his opinion, TGP contributors were the most musically knowledgeable folks he had ever found on the web. So your rep is on the line here people! J

What I’m searching for:

A cut-away acoustic six string (steel), 14 frets to the body and a 1 13/16” (or 1 7/8”) neck width at the nut.

I’ve found two or three guitars that can meet the neck width requirement, but that would require me to forego either the cut-away or the scale length. And I can’t do that.

If anybody could list specific makes/models that fit this criteria I would really, really appreciate it. THANK YOU - John

A price range will be helpful... ;)

Try also asking here: www.13thfret.com. This is a great board devoted to all things acoustic...

Sounds like you want a guitar with a classical style nut width but in a steel string. I believe Takamine makes a guitar with all the specs you listed. I am not 100% sure but I think Seagull makes guitars with a 1 7/8 nut. I would imagine they offer a cutaway.

Also, are you sure ya want the wide nut as opposed to a thick neck? That nut width is going to somewhat limit your search unless ya want Collings or somebody like that to custom build ya an instrument. Just a suggestion buy you might try out some different neck profiles and see how they feel.

Good Luck with the hunt.

Thanks for the input, guys...

I did some more digging and think I found exactly what I am looking for from Seagull (a company I was not even aware of until recently). You were on the right track, Zombywoof.

It's their Artist Series, Peppino D'Agostino. They even offer one without electronics - which is another thing I was told I'd "never find" in a cut-away.

Only down-side is, no dealer in my area has this model in stock. So to find out about tone and playability I'll have to actually order one. Should have it in hand sometime next week.

Any thoughts here on Seagull guitars in general? Or, anyone ever hear any D'Agostino recordings? Tone and color? (He plays Seagull exclusively according to the site.) THANKS - John
