I have an idea for an amplifier that I would really like to (attempt to) build. Nothing groundbreaking, just what I think is a cool idea and an amp I'd really like to play. Two channels, channel one being the typical EF86 vox-ish/matchless style, volume and six position tone knob. Channel two would be Hiwatt based. For the power section I want to run two EL34's and two el84's, and it would be cool to have a switch to be able to just run the two el84's.

A few questions...

Is there a way to get that power section to work? I read EL84L's can be run at a higher plate voltage, around 450 max, which would also work for the El34's, correct? What kind of power transformer and output transformers could I use? What value primary would work best? (8k, etc) Do I need a choke? What kind/how many cap cans? Also, I'd have to figure out a way to have dual bias pots, right?

I could really use some ideas/help/advice pulling this all together. I am pretty new to all of this...

Thanks in advance.

Start small, learn some basic electronics, then get creative.
