I'm curious if Ted Weber will sub out parts in his kits for an upcharge even if the option isn't available. For example, the 5E7 tweed bandmaster kit comes with his Signature Series speakers. There is no option to upgrade or eschew the speakers altogether. I'm not serious about buying yet, so I don't want to bother him with my e-mails, but does anyone know if I'd be able to sub in, say, 10A125s instead of the sig. series for an upcharge? What about subbing Mercury or Heyboer transformers for the stock ones, since he also sells those brands? Just curious!

I'm thinking that he wouldn't offer all those extras if you can't add them top a kit.The signature speakers are great sounding by the way.
His jacks suck REAL bad though,so factor in a set of switchcraft jacks.

Basically I really want to do a 5E7 bandmaster but with 10A125 (I like the signature series but I LOVE the 10A125), Mercury transformers, no caps or resistors so I can use carbon comps and the mojo oil-filled "vitamin T" caps, and no tubes or rectifier so I can use some old-stock ones I have kicking around in the basement.
Maybe I should just e-mail and ask how much a 5E7 with no caps or resistors or jacks, 3 10A125s, and the Merc iron would cost. But I don't want to bother him until I'm ready to buy.
The way I figure, building an amp is expensive as it is. And I'm going to want to keep and play it. So I don't want to do it until I can go top-of-the-line all the way, you know?

By all accounts Ted is a nice guy, so it couldn't hurt to ask him.

yes, ted will sub, delete, add just about anything. i asked him about offering the newish hiwatt 50 watt head in a1x12 combo form and he said no problem. i think he said to just put the info/change sin the comments section and he would email a quote back. fwiw, you can order the kits without jacks, switches, tubes, speakers, cabinet, etc.

thanks, that's just what I wanted to know. Too bad there's no way to do a "price check" without adding it to the cart and "faking" like I'm making an order.
Reality is I'm just dreaming, all major funds are allocated to saving for a big down payment on a place to live. :( I promised my wife.
