Hey guys,

I recently purchased a Guitar Mill body. I have a few questions.
I have a Fender Classic 50's Telecaster neck. Will it...

1) Fit? The measurements seem to be identical to Guitar Mill necks.
2) How would I go about removing some of the poly finish from the back of the neck? Just that it occasionally gets a bit sticky and I want to get a 'softer feel' from it.
3) How would I take off the Mexican Serial number stamp on the back of it? Because this Guitar Mill body/Fender neck will be a custom job by me (wiring and all) and the first I've ever done I'd really like to make it special by giving my own 03111986 (birth date) serial number on the neck plate. But it'd look silly with 2 serials... so is there a way I can 'sand' or 'rub off' the Fender serial number stamp?

Stupid questions it might seem to some but these are the only questions I have left remaining for my Telecaster. Expect pics within 3 weeks (body still needs to be finished painting...)

Cheers

Those aren't stupid questions at all and are part of why TGP exists.

1. You shouldn't have a problem with neck fit, but you should consider having a good tech align and drill the holes for you to be safe.

2. Just lightly sand the back of the neck with a little 240 or 320 grit sandpaper and you'll have a nice satin finish...just don't overdo it.

3. It would be easier to order a new neck plate with your custom serial number stamped into it. I'm sure there are several places to get such a thing, but I know that Callaham Guitars offers it. You should check out his hardware anyways as it is considered some of the very best.

Thanks! I really appreciate your feedback. The first two notes are duly noted however the 3rd question was relating to the print on the back of the headstock. It reads as a mexican serial number, and says Made In Mexico. What I want to do is basically figure out a way to get rid of it because I'll have my own neck plate done up.

I guess I could sand it... but it would look a little silly, right? That's my only beef at the moment with this project... but I guess that's more aesthetics than anything. I just want something with nothing but MY name on it! :P

The hardware I'm getting from GRGuitars.com. Their Fender package seems to be a great deal at $125.
