Roland CD-2e SD/CD Recorder :: Overview (http://www.roland.com/PRODUCTS/EN/CD-2e/index.html)
This Unit is amazing ... in 6 minutes I recorded three short tracks straight to CD...
Finalized (a nice compression of the levels for track leveling..) and viola'... had an instant CD
You can edit everything within the unit ...NO COMPUTER NEEDED
Zoom H2 up for trade now ..:-)

Nice, Joseph. I'm enjoying my H2, but that looks like a really interesting unit.

Yo Joel ...
I'm just being silly .. the Zoom H2 is a terrfic unit by all means..
This Roland makes recording a fast food situation as right then there, on the spot,
you can record a whole rehearsal to CD in less then two minutes after rehearsals over ..
I shouldn't have made the title so radical .... I apologize for that..
The Roland's just faster, not necessarily better ...:-)

It looks like an answering machine with a CD sticking out of it.

Oh no, radical titles are good -- you got me to read the thread!
I hear you on all of the above points. I like the H2's quality a lot, but -- since I'm the guy doing all of the recording in our band -- it does become a pain to upload it to the computer, convert it and then burn CD's for everyone. The CD 2E sounds very convenient.
It's a multi-tracker, too?

Looks cool, but it also looks to be about 3x the price of the H2...

That's funny ... it really does ...
And ya know what... it's as easy as a answering machine to use ...

Very nice indeed. Deff saves some time dumping to a C/D. I still like the size of the H2 compared to this. I usually record in mp-3 mode so i dont have to convert from wav to mp-3, but I can see where it could save ya some time. 3X's the cost is about 6 bills but if having the need to record and then dump that fast is important, i can see where it would be worth it. its like, one company comes out with something and then the competition comes out soon after to top it, which is good for us, the consumers. Are the editing features more advanced then the H2?. The H2 was one of the best things I purchased in 08. Guitar players are in a buyers market renaissance these days. Thanks for sharing this great new product with us Lucid

Yeah, I checked their website and it looks to be an absolute snap. I just wish it didn't cost so much...whew! I guess the CD burning capabilities are at least half of the cost, but if you really need that, it's worth it.
The demo samples sound fantastic!

Very cool. I love my little Micro BR recorder. Roland definitely makes good stuff.

Looks good if you need to burn a CD in a hurry. But it won't hide in my top shirt pocket with the mics sticking out perfectly while I record bands playing from in front of the stage. That's what I like about the H2.

Normally, I see a CD sticking out and look elsewhere.
Seeing a CD and a $645 price tag? I almost can't run fast enough.
But this unit has something I've been bitching about for a while...
Speakers!
I don't want to wear headphones just to spot-check a recording.
Also I saw in a blurb that it has a metronome and wireless remote.
Seems perfect for the practice room.
When you get a good idea, hit the remote.
Thanks Lucidology, this is definitely worth looking into.

Dammit Joseph!! I was happy with my H2 and you go and post this!!!

I'd like one with a built-in drum box with some nice presets.

The H2 is very, very cool ... but the way this product saves time is mindblowing .... worth every penny in my book

Yes ,, not only a metronome, but you can use it as a practicing tool,,
You set it to repeat a certain number of bars on a CD,,,
and then slow it down without changing pitch, in order to learn complicated passages,,,
You can slow down or speed up one of your own recordings too... all without changing pitch ... !!
Another really great thing about it is that you can use the line in to
convert your old cassettes or records to CD (it even has an automatic
marker function which silences between songs on the record or tape and numbers the songs accordingly ...)

Does it record as well as the H2 (internal mics). I actually have the H4.
I bought a Boss MicroBR as a possible replacement but to me, the zoom records much better (especially for acoustic stuff)
No XLR is also a bummer. I sometimes use a better mic into the H4.

It may smoke the H2 - but does it eat the H2 for lunch?

Yes ... it does record as well as the H2's internal mics (as I have an H2)
I would even go so far as too say it get's better full frequency bass response ....
That's one thing that really blew us away because we've been using
the H2 to record our rehearsals and we kept complaining about the lack of bass ...
And though both units depend a great deal on placement ..
we've found the Roland to be more forgiving in that way.... which is very cool indeed!
The other factor to consider is that Roland has an optional Stereo Mic to go with the unit ..
I just ordered one .. supposed to be very good and plugs directly into the two lines out ...

The Stereo mic meant specifically to go with this Unit works incredible ...
Way beyond my expectations .... it's not cheap: $120 ... but it's worth it for how it works so very well ...

Using this unit just gets more valuable & more valuable as I learn to use it....
Truly a good investment indeed ....wish it was around last year ...

Very cool! Thanks for the tip my bruddah..
So if it has stereo inputs, looks like I can simply pull off of my mixer and go straight in..
I like it!!

So does this mean we'll be hearing you on some of the backing tracks?:D

I found that too, comparing the Edirol R-09 and the Sony PCM-D50 to the H2. Altho those are a lot more $$$
I wound up getting rid of the H2 and getting the Edirol.....
Hey that new Roland looks pretty cool! Automatic marker function?!? Man, that would be a MAJOR time saver for me for dumping tape into digital!

Geez, here I was, suckered into reading the thread to find out if you can get high by smoking an H2, and nothing, nada, zip.

Why otherwise smoke an H2, if not for a buzz?:D

Seems like a cool device - record and listen to rehearsals, transcribing, blowing over your Aebersold's, sketch ideas, create review cd's for cover bands. A little pricey though?

Yes a little pricy ... but the fun it offers is so worth it ...
Have even made instant demos specifically meant for potential gigs ...
Imagine taking a client a CD only a couple hours after they asked for a sample of something specific ...
