I'm looking to put together a basic recording set up to meet my needs, and thought I'd post my priorities and possible approaches here for some feedback.

Background:
Experienced guitar player (30+ years) and sometimes teacher, keyboard player. Own guitars, keyboards, mics.

Priorities for recording:

For guitar...
Use as practice tool (play along with tracks; checkpoint timing, phrasing, tone)
Capture song ideas

For keyboard...
Sequence and record two MIDI keyboards

Possible approaches:

Mbox Pro w/ laptop--reason: Pro Tools tracks would be portable to carry to a full production studio, supports MIDI, plus I need a new laptop anyway. I'd considered a handheld like the Zoom H2, but for a few hundred dollars more, it seems like I could get a lot more.

Thoughts please?

I've never used a Zoom, but I can't imagine why I would want to having Logic.

The Mbox sounds like a good setup for your needs actually but I would stay away from the zoom unit, its nice for ideas but doesnt work with MIDI.

Computer based DAWs are much easier to work with and you can do a lot more on them.
