Do it often especially with Duncans, or custom winds I get from Jon Moore.

I would think I'd go the other way. Bridge pickups tend to be bright enough if not overly bright just due to the positioning . Vice versa with the neck.

I've had good luck mixing the mags in both positions.

that's just the way i like it in my humbucker guitars. the reduced pull and spongier, bass-shy sound of an al II in the neck and the beefier, punchier attack of an al V in the bridge are just right for me.

I gather that Gibson used the Alnico V Bridge, Alnico II neck combination in certain 1990s Les Paul Standards and certain other models, including the 'Lucielle' 355 . Mine balanced quite well in that combination, but eventually got replaced by a Bare Knuckle calibrated set of AIV 'Mules' .

The combination of A5 bridge and A2 neck can work very well together. The main reason for this combo can be summed up in a single term and that is calibration. The neck pickup is always going to be louder than the bridge pickup just because of the position on the guitar and it's response to the strings. An A2 mag is not as strong as an A5, therefore it has a weaker magnetic field and therefore, won't overpower the bridge pickup. When wound right (with regard to DCR) a pickup with an A2 in the neck position and one with an A5 in the bridge position can provide a good balance.
