If I were to get a halfway decent analog to digital convertor RME Apogge Lucid et al and throw it through a dated firewire interface like my old Motu 2048 MKI, are there any good or bad reasons to use the Motu,,, it is just to throw the signal to my daw... i.e. would thie MOTU PCI-Card have any effect of the the digital in???

It doesn't seem like it should have any effect IMO, but that's why I'm asking...

I just finished a CD that everybody seems to love so far on my "old dated" MOTU 828 (even "worse" than what you have). No outboard preamps of any kind.

If you can't make great music with what you describe, the problem isn't the hardware. GO for it.

No loss in audio quality, although assuming you're going through the MOTU's adat ports, you're limited to 48kHz.

No, not going in with ADAT's, going in with a stand-alone ADC. the metal beast in the middle of the chain would be the Motu 2048 and into the Motu-PCI Card...

Now what if I were to just get say, an RME OctaMic ADC Card?
