Hey guys, I'm liking all this mic discussion lately.
I'm going into the studio on Friday to lay down the guitar tracks for my band's next 2 songs.
I'm listening to some old demos done with a Shure SM57/ Senn e609 Mix, and another demo done with a Behringer Ultra-G direct box with cab simulation.
Now. Does the Ultra G sound like a real 4x12 mic'd up with a Royer? Heck no. But, I feel like there is some sort of direct-ness of the tone that might blend well with the mic'd signal. It's heavy rock music, so I'm not looking for ambience, I'm looking for a real in your face tone.
If I have the SM57, e609, and Ultra-G going into a mixer, and all 3 brought up to the same level, am I going to get phase issues? I remember hearing somewhere that direct signals get to the track FASTER than a mic(because of the air involved) and then you have phase issues. True? Not True? Anyone tried it before, either with this or a similar setup?
Your wisdom is needed fellas.
