I would like your opinion on a very typical problema that afflicts most gear nerds... Asked many times... yes I have read them I swear...

But what about this....

I need a decent ADC and I was looking at the RME ADC Card...
I am wondering if I can use this with any preamp of my choice... it is linked to the RME Octamic products...
Or if I should go with the preamp/ADC combo... more expensive

So if I am trying to save some cha ching and go with the RME Card, and use a decent preamp, any suggestions....

I have used a TC Electronic Line Driver Booster for mono tracks with some success, and have way too much noise with my Carvin Quad X Preamp to be of any use.

I currently have
Lucid DA9624
Motu 2048 MKI
Cubase SX3
Oh yeah, and an old Klemt Preamp, the one with the tape echo

WHAT TO DO, WHAT TO DO &&&&
Like I said, I can see blowing $400 on the RME, I think I need a decent preamp... UA? kinda pricey, any advice under $600 ???
It doesn't have to be new

Oh and I need some really good headphones cuz I ain't got no cash for monitors now, and I need a decent phantom mic cuz I sing and play some acoustic instruments.

Thanx
