I just bought one for a friend for $150! Made in China, rosewood neck, great intonation, lots of harmonics on the neck, whammy bar, sounds great! Leaves plenty of money left over for other things.

I want this one, the "Deluxe" model, with the SD alnico pups:

$249 list; not bad! Haven't seen this one in the stores yet. I like the satin maple neck + medium jumbo frets.

I'm pretty sure that one has already been discontinued. That's why it doesn't show up in any stores or online stores.

How can you tell which new Squires are real wood and which are laminate? Also, are the tone blocks on these things worth keeping?

You've GOT to play each one; with Squiers you're looking for that "diamond in the rough."
