Hi,
Just got a real nice 2 channel preamp: the Pacifica from A-Designs. I am using it with my MBOX2. Is there a recommendation--or at least a rule of thumb--for where the gain on the MBOX2 should be set when using an external preamp?
I imagine you want to keep the MBOX at that setting while adjusting the gain on the preamp.
Thanks.

Doesn't the MBox have a line input? That's what you'd want to use. Otherwise, you're running the Pacifica thru the preamp of the MBox and that would be negate the advantage of a great external preamp like the Pacifica.
The line input wouldn't have a gain knob, but it would need to be set its standard gain to either -10 or +4 (I'm guessing that the Pacifica is +4) which is probably a switch on the back of the MBox.

I have the Pacifica connected to the MBOX's line input. Are you saying the gain controls on the MBOX2 do not affect the line input gain?

Correct. The line input should have a static input level of either -10 or +4. Volume adjustments would be made with the Pacifica.
