I'm seriously considering bidding on this guitar...

but hate to bid without seeing it first. The guy is local so I could pick it up, and see before I pay. Anyone know what pickups are in it and what the neck shape would be like? The guy doesn't know and it's a 2001.

I am worried about the fact that no serial # is listed, or shown in the photos, could be a stolen guitar.
It has an 8-digit serial number indicating it was stamped the 316th day of 2001. I'm uncertain of the types of pickups the guitar has but it sounds fantastic through my Gibson Super Goldtone stack - actually it sounds fantastic through all my amps. : - )
as far as pickups should be the PAF pups with a 50s rounded or 60s slim neck profile, the standards come with both neck profiles, the neck profile is very important to me, since I love the 60's slim and hate the 50's rounded profile.

Funky pic hosting. I'd contact him and get a phone number so you can speak to him directly. Much easier to gauge a person when you can talk to them.

I'd save a lil' more money & get a Reissue LP...easily 3X the guitar when compared to a Gibson USA production LP Std. ;)

2001 should be 57 Classics and 50s rounded neck shape.

They changed a few things in 2001. It was the first year they offered both a 50s and 60s profile on the production Standards, went back to using those Kluson style plastic key tuners, used the smaller headstock, etc...
They came with "Burstbucker V" pickups. The names of these pickups changed to "Burstbucker Pros" shortly after they were released.

2001 would be 490R/498T wouldn't it? I thought the BBs weren't until 2002/2003.

For my money I would say it's an early 2001. As stated, 2001 was the transistional year when Gibson re-tooled the entire guitar. Most of the early ones had chrome hardware and speed knobs. The fact that he includes the speed knobs would make me think that. Go look at it, see if you like it.
