This is my '79 that I stripped down to bare wood (ash, was a sunburst) about 5 years ago and refinished in vintage white lacquer. I also re-carved the body to be more like a '60s body. This was an upper 9+lb guitar that now weighs in the 7 + lbs range. Relic-ed the neck with an amber refin. Sounds, really, really good with all stock electronics. Oh, it's a hardtail too.

I had the same guitar, until someone broke into my house and decided they liked it more than me apparently...

I loved it man, it was the best fender i've ever owned/played - it just had some mojo.

This has stopped me from buying anymore strats, and even playing my own! I've sold all my other strats save one because of this one. The other one I kept is a maple board. But this one doesn't let me play it... Heh...

My favorite, a very clean 62 Oly White (Nov 62 B) that is a mind blowing guitar to play-came from the original owner, weighs 7 pounds even, it's one of the first laminated rosewood board guitars, ones before this had the slab board. The laminated Braz rosewood on these is quite a bit thicker than later ones. a wonderful guitar, to be sure.....http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t227/bugnduck/6736b8c0.jpg

I love white Strats here are two more a 73 with trem and a 76 hardtail: The 73 has a light alder body, maple neck, hot stagger magnet p/us-it is 100% stock and has some play wear and yellowed-but it kicks major hard rock booty!! The 76 is a 7 pound hardtail in 9 of 10 condition, it's super bluesy, fat and resonant and is like a near new guitar-KILLER!!!!http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t227/bugnduck/collection2011.jpghttp://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t227/bugnduck/collection2014.jpg

This is my baby. It's a build from a crappy Korean strat copy that I refinished in Olympic White, and threw on Fender hardware with a 70's reissue strat neck. Locking tuners, with just a volume control and a single Duncan JB humbucker. Sounds amazing despite that the body is made from agathis plys. It even has...dare I say....mojo.

Well, that should be silver. Is that all original paint and has faded? I had one in 82. It was my first "nice" guitar. Mine was a dog though. Sold it for a Carvin after a year. But I loved the feel of it...and the looks. Glad you got a good one.

Hey Blueser ~
What gauge strings are on there? I'm curious because of the 5 springs on the trem block. Is that how you always set Strats? I usually have 3 with .011's. Should I be adding a few?

The guitar came set up that way from Fender with .10's on it. I had the guys at Wildwood Guitars adjust the action to my specs, but the springs came that way from Fender. The only thing I did was change out the strings that it came with to some Snake Oils.

It is cool and a bit interesting about the color change. The Fender ad pictured the guitar in its original 'Pearlescent White'. I loved the look of the guitar and the 'retro' features including the the 4-bolt neck and medium jumbo frets. These were designed and built by the same team that would soon become Fender's custom shop...

However, there was a problem with the pearlescent finish and some guitars were not retaining the paint!!! I was at the guitar shop and noticed a poster for the '79 strat in the new 'silver' paint and inquired about it. That is when I learned about the original finish problem. The store owner said that I could send my guitar back to Fender and they would refinish it in the new color. I thought for a moment and said No Way. I'll keep mine and take my chances. Besides that, it played and sounded great.

Well, here it is almost 30 years later and I don't think she looks bad at all! I love the way the finish has checked-very similar to lacquer checking. I did my best to take good care of it but it has been played-not abused.

Anyway, thats the story on this one.

Take care,

Johnny Lockwood

One problem...this isn't polite at all. I assume they bought this color because they happen to like this color.

EDIT: As long as we're being critical it's offense. If you're going to be rude, you may as well learn to spell. www.dictionary.com (http://www.dictionary.com) is your friend.

If I was trying to be rude I would have gone into a longer description of what I think of them... If I were trying to be rude I would have not said thank you several times.

Maybe they did not buy it because they liked the color combinations, mybe they were stoned and thought it was cool looking in the store- you know klike drunk guys do in bars with ugly chicks and the next morning think, What the hell did I do?" Perhaps someone they admire plays one so they bought that same color combination because they are in a said cover band such as Matt Something or other that plays Bruce Springsteen in a band called "Bruce in the USA" so he has a natural looking Tele... Or perhaps they are past colors and played several Strats and "the white one" sounded the best. Or pehaps there was only one Strat in the store and it just happened to be white. Or maybe a guy's fiance is buying him a Strat for a wedding present so well since is from her she wanted a "virgin" (white dress) looking Strat. Or maybe Dad is buying it for his 13 year old daughter's Catholic confirmation and thus white, but she got killed by a drunk driver so sincde the daughter is dead well the father plays it. Or mom bought it for her 16 year old son's Bar Mitzvah and thus white. I duno I think there are lot's of reasons people end up with a white Strat than simply I loke white. After all white is not considered a color, but actually a lack of color.

Speaking of those ugly yellow nocasters the Nocaster Yellow that is used on heavy relics not the stock relic, NOS or closet classic is this bright yellow that is more intense that the others. I mean have you ever really seen a blonde telecaster turn into an intence butter yellow?

Oh and I am not critical of occasional typos. :) Thanks again, beautiful neck on posted one. Thanks Thanks!! ( double thanks)

I'm going to go out on a limb and say they are popular because Hendrix use to play white Strats and Fender makes them because they sell well. Plus, amazing as it may seem a lot of folks actually like the way they look. For instance, I think white Strats have a clean and classic look. YMMV.

I like white strats and I miss the white strat I used to have. Lots of good ones here.

I like sunburst ones too, but I think I'm leaning towards another white strat. There's just something about them.
