Hi everyone. I need to get serious with my amateur multi-track recording again, but I've been out of it for a few years. I've got Acid Pro 4.0, if that tells you anything. :o Pretty good program, but only good for one track at a time, far as I can tell.
Back in the day, I used Acid 4 and an SB Live 5.1, and now I'm gonna step it up and do it right... or, at least better than before. :D
I've got an M-Audio Delta 1010LT, and the 64 bit Vista drivers for it are in the Beta phase right now. I've heard they'll be made available publicly around Sept, so I need to start looking at an upgraded platform that'll work well with it.
I want a DAW that'll actually take advantage of 64 bit architecture, and one that performs well under Vista, and wasn't just ported over from XP.
My current budget is about $300.
What do you Vista x64 users prefer, and why?
Thanks,
D2R

I think Sonar is your only choice if you want a true 64 bit signal path.

I too am waiting on M-Audio for drivers for my Delta 44 card. :FM
In the meantime I've been using HP's crappy integrated audio, just to capture ideas until I'm back up and running. I have not been able to get my Sonar 64 to work, despite hours of trying.
However, I downloaded the Reaper 64 Beta, and so far it has worked flawlessly. I'm liking Reaper more and more all the time. I'm going to buy it as soon as the final 64 version is done....and I see the Sun setting somewhat on Sonar. Reaper is so much easier and faster to use...and the routing is incredible. I don't do a whole lot of MIDI, so that is not an issue for me.

That tiny little 3,5mB file is a fully functional DAW program?

I would check out reaper 64....in fact I just might do that myself. Never tried but have heard good things about it. My main is XP64 with nuendo.

Yeppers....and a darn good one.
Sonar and many others are a little bloated, IMO. Sonar in particular was built up version upon version from what was originally MIDI software. A lot of junk floating around in that code, I'll bet.
Reaper is just the opposite...a DAW from the start, with MIDI coming later. Very "tightly coded", no bloat. It's snappy quick, and very stable for me so far....and that is just the Beta. Its routing capabilities are untouchable, and I like the "tool-less" interface. Takes some getting used to, though.

I didn't know Reaper was available in a 64 bit beta. I'll have to try it out.

Not yet. I'm still waiting for x64 drivers for my M-Audio Delta 1010LT card. They're supposed to be out by the end of Sept.
